Fantastic Split Cake Conatiners

Post by CreateFaces on Sat May 08, 2010 8:34 pm

Had to share my great new find for split cakes...These are pill containers that all screw together...another words only one top to remove. The set came with an extra top in case you lose the first. I got this set at CVS for $5.99

Wonderful find! Though I do agree about the square containers. They just wear so much more evenly than the round! Would love to see some samples of those splits thought! Delicious!

If you love those, you should know that the Wolfe and DFX larger containers all screw together as well. Not the 32 and 30 gram though. If you like the system, I knew one painter that only brought her screw system to jobs and YES i used to tease her in not so nice words! LOL

I have this great container for my glitters that you may like for paints. Also for pills, also bought at CVS, $8.99 though. The unique feature is that there is a lock that must be pressed in order to open any of the tops so they don't just pop open in travel.

I've been using this for about 2 months and it is still holding strong.

The lock...

The fire cake is what I used to do my son who's my current avatar, I added orange to this new one. I'll post some real examples once I use them, but here's some simple strokes with the cakes:

I love how they turned out.
I have to agree with the other ladies though.....love the rectangle containers. Easier to swipe your brush or sponge.

I guess in the end, we all have our own systems. bom

Love the colour combos. Lovely.

WHAT are the colors in your red white and blue. No bleeding rock! What do you do when you are outside with that glitter!??

Everything in this pic is Snaz. For the red/white/blue I keep the brush fairly dry so not to bleed. For the glitter, those well are pretty deep so the wind doesn't have any effect (if it's reall windy, I shield with my body. Plus I only open one at a time, the others stayed locked down tight. I don't have any problems, when I'm done, I close it back up.

I use the locking container for my glitter tatt kit! Just refill as needed and never have had a spillage or wind problem!

Those containers are CHEAP at walmart in beading section or Michael's or Joanne's with a coupon or sale. I paid $4 roughly for mine.

Snaz really blends easily and that's what my big split & rainbow cakes are, even the white, red & pink are half classic & sparkling.

However, Metina gave a marvelous demo of DFX colors at my Woodbridge Jam and now they are my main non-blendable paints in the side long pallet for my one stroke work, that I do often ; ) The teency six pack of rainbows on top of it are only to load my butterfly & sponge brushes. And, altho I have wet & dry snaz black, that's DFX white & black in the tiny 2ml wells - won't paint without 'em!

Mike took this photo as I was beginning a One Stroke Serpentine Dragon with DFX.

These two are Snaz Dragons that blended too much without good color seperation of the black, dark electric green & light sparkling green....

Snaz blended so much on this two inch little Hitchhiking Dragonlette I had to go back over it with light green on a round brush - not very time effective ; (

In other painting techniques, I'm used to my paints doing the work for me and DFX & Snazaroo do the job well.
Cheers,

You're right, this is fantastic compared to the similar Snaz cake I made for snakes, what color DFX are pictured here?

I dont know, Erica gave me the lite & dark green strips for my pallet & I only know they were from the DFX cakes she bought from Metina when she came to my Jam. Metina will have to help with the color names.

I will replace most my one stroke colors with DFX. I love the snaz sparkling turquois & electric blues for my dolphins, etc and the snaz black, silver & white for sharks, elephants. That kind of blending is good.

I will save my snaz electric & sparkling greens & blues for dragon, monster face bases but suspect that more DFX colors will show up in my previously exclusive snaz pallet. Love my mini cake, Metina! The DFX colors go on so well with the brush - mmnnnn, SO nice, opaque & sharp looking!!!
Susan
PS: Metina my Jam location changed to the larger Uno Chicago Grill restaurant that really pampered us with free gourmet appetizers, as shown in the photos on my DCmetroFP Woodbridge Jam Album, mm-mm great food : D
