donating facepainting to a raffle?

Post by aprilmoonflower on Thu May 13, 2010 12:44 pm

I had a chance to donate to a raffle at my daughters homeschool co-op and thought facepainting would be perfect and maybe help me start my business. I didn't follow through though, mainly because I have been so ill and I then I also wasn't sure what exactly to raffle off. 1 hour or 2 hours of services? A gift certificate with a certain dollar amount? Then what to give them physically for the raffle. A flyer? Business card?

Any ideas on this for the future? Is it worth my time?

I have donated several certificates for $50 off a party when asked to help with charity auctions. Sometimes they don't want face painting at the event, but wouldn't mind having a "thing" donated. To be honest, no one has EVER redeemed them, but they DID pay for them in the auction, so I at least helped out the charity. I have it state a specific dollar amount and a couple of specific party packages to which it can be applied.

I have donated gift certificates for a booking, clearly defining duration(they can pay for more), vicinity, that possibility alternate dates may have to be chosen to meet my schedule. I would put a $ value on the gift certificate so they know exactly what my value is. I would bundle the certificate with a brochure, a couple of business cards and tie it with colourful ribbon to distinguish it from the other gift cards in the auction. I consider it part advertising, part community service, some places will even give a tax receipt for the donation. Many of the auctions around here raise thousands of dollars with many high ticket items. I just make sure the group knows the value of our type of work so it is treated with more enthusiasm than a coupon for a couple of pizzas.(bright ribbons and coloured flyers help with that)

I'm doing that this summer for a charity event. I clearly specified the length of the party and the dollar amount that would be worth (helps with expectations and for the charity to give me a statmenty receipt for taxes).

I've done it for balloon sculptures... one free 5 teared balloon cake sculpture, or one vase w/ flowers, etc. If you do services make sure it specifies for an open date & time. You don't want an angry parent thinking they bought a time slot that turns out to already be filled. In other words... don't set a time for "Jill's" party & then try to fit me in, but set the time & date for me & then work the party plans around it.

BTW, I've been homeschooling for 13 yrs! Love, love , love it!

I call mine a Face Painting 'Coupon'.
I have 1 for 1 hour and 1 for 2 hours.
It states clearly that it must be based on my availability.

This month my one hour coupon is being bundle at a 'hoi-peloi' gathering, together with a high fashion photographer and a master chef. We will be the "Birthday Bash" package.

I'm planning on donating a couple of gift certificates for silent auctions for my son's school music night fundraiser and another organization that I would like to support ... Would anyone please share the wording or other tips for creating this certificate?

Also, I guess I need to create some flyers for the display -- any suggestions on what to include would be appreciated.
