Post by shandi on Fri May 14, 2010 5:06 pm

Have a fire split cake and a sea split cake I made now I want a pallet something a bit neater then the snaz's in my bead box.

You can also make your own. I get small rectangular boxes and put my paints into them. Then all my little boxes are velroxed into a bigger plattet.

You can also refil any pre-filled palette you buy with whatever paint you like best.

I have to concur, I love DFX, but Mehron and Wolfe also put together nice palettes, but you don't get much in the Wolfe one, the pots are sooo small!

I love my Snaz Jumbo palettes. I treat them nice and they've lasted going on 9 years...

They fit in my toolbox and are easy to handle.

I've transferred most my paint into a bead box & use it as my pallet. It's easy to transfer & I open one lid & I'm good to paint. I was getting really tired of a line of kids waiting while I opened EVERY lid on EVERY paint. I still have to open my Starblends one by one. I haven't found a solution for them:-(

I started out as a painter using Wolfe Essentials Palette, and it was a REALLY good palette, so I'd have to recommend that one.

I had put all of mine into a bead box until recently. I got the professional case in the store here and put full sized snaz paints in it. It looks really pro Very Happy Only thing I'm finding is that since I have the foam for dfx instead of the ones cut specifically for snaz, things keep moving around and the foam keeps popping up... might not do that if you had the right cut foam for the brand of paints you use, but I think I'll be able to remedy it with some hot glue Wink it really does look nice and clean compared to the bead box.

I'm with Shannon. I get the empty snaz jumbo palattes, and all the brands fit okay.

I did find at United Art and Education (a store that sells art and teacher supplies) a similar palatte to the snaz in a more durable plastic! It was in the kids' painting section in the paint pot/palate part. It has 6 instead of 8 wells and almost takes up the same amount of space and doesn't have a lid... BUT it's more durable and $2.50!

Perry,
Instead of hot gluing, why not Velcro them in? Then if you need to change something up the paints will come out easily.

I got a Wolfe essentials pallet....i like it but the paint is very water sensitive. One drop of water on the painting and it's ruined. At least Snaz is semi resistant. Now trying to decide which to try next.

I was just at my micheal's, and in the painting section there was this large air tight paint holder, for closing open paints into when you are working on a painting. I think I will use that as my pallet!

Yes, the laptop one.

And I can still pull the hot glue off when I need to... for now, I had hot glue, I didn't have any adhesive velcro around.

Yes, that is a Masterson's type paint preserver for acrylics & oil paint but it's really big to fit slick paper pad pallets and wont fit in the Pro tote bag I use. If you are looking for an easy carry place to put your paints, check out the one inch tall semi-clear scrapbook paper holder with handle at walmart for under five bucks. I put both my pallets, my rainbow stripes, mini rainbow and mirror in it. It fits in the tote or I can carry it in the other hand ; )

Will add a photo of my new setup soon.
cheers,
Susan

Early on, I noticed that l never know where l will run across a useful must-have for my kit. Found at the dollar section of Food Lion grocery store, I got the three paint sets, washed two out & filled one with my spare Snaz 2ml rainbow & sparkle kit paints I got with a coupon at Michaels.

The paint case is perfectly compact for Jams or prospecting. It's nice to have spare case & one for the grandkids, too. Keep an open mind next time you go shopping & you may run across a great find for your kit, too!

BTW: I switched one of my round brushes for a butterfly brush after the photo was taken Very Happy
Cheers,
Susan

For little starter palettes I really like the mehron paradise basic and pastel, they are really sturdy ,come with a good quality brush and a nice mirror that takes up the whole lid. I take them everywhere just in case.

That is one downside to Wolfe and DFX if you are used to using Snazz and Mehron; they are low water paints. You only need a drop or two in the pallete to use the paint, no more or it will get hard to work with. That is also why it isn'y advisable to keep them wet with a spray bottle, as too much water will get in the paint before you are ready to use a certain color, then when you are ready, it's a bit gel-ish. They really are a high quality paint, it will just take some getting used to as the paint is used slightly differently from what you've been using. I use all DFX and Wolfe and I LOVE them.
