I saw 6-well palettes (probably similar to what you saw, Jenn - probably for tempera pucks) at DeSerres for cheap, too - but no lids. I couldn't see how that would work, so I too have the Snaz palettes

I love my wolfe and dfx, I started out with snaz in the very beginning but it just didn't give me the wow I wanted. I moved to wolfe and kryolan, and now my main is DFX. My daughter has all of my Snaz. I do however keep on hand snaz black for painting on younger kids for my batman or any other design that calls for significant amount of black paint.

DFX

Post by shandi on Thu Jun 10, 2010 9:41 am

how water sensitive is DFX? Wolfe like I've said the smallest drop of water caused running and smearing on the work of art. Here the humidity can be 90% or so it seems ( like breathing through a warm wet towel) and the paint smears very easily and tends to bleed.

The only problem with the box is the lid design should have been flipped, so that when the box is open the design is advertisement, I was really tierd when I did it and didn't catch it till I was nearly done. Hubby is going to try and re-set the hinges, well maybe, I have already set the chain holding it open.

DFX/Wolfe work well in humid climates(I'm in FL). You just need to play w/ it till you learn the right consistancy. Use minimal water & really work it.

Wolfe claim when used on it's own,( not mixed or used with any other brand)
that their paint won't smudge.
Is there anyone who uses it for bases and lining that can confirm this?
I had thought this was why wolfe can be harder to remove, staining etc.
I use paradise and my paints do not like humidity, but have never become unusable.... the black gets very gluggy if I spray it so I only drip water on it.
I've gotten used to the kids ending up in a smeary smudgy mess.
I have noticed you can sweat through the paint and if you don't wipe the sweat away the paint stays where it should... so it's not sweating so much that is the problem it's the wiping of the sweat.( That's with paradise at least)

I just got my DFX palettes (Essentials and metallix) today right before lunch and i opened the box right away....It was love at first sight (cue Kylie Mingoue song). needless to say after I ate i took them out and started doodling a grapes, leaves, and vines (for my food and wine fest this weekend). I conquer with the use of less water to paint with. Also it's been over an hour and it's not smugging off. (I painted on my inner forarm an it's been rubbing on my desk the whole time as i've been typing documents). Looks like I got the last one one here and all of the big cake holders Embarassed sorry!

DFX/Wolfe doesn't smudge. I use it for bases on older kids & adults, not on the little ones. I also have a lot of split cakes that I've made from my wolfe pallets & love the staying power of them. I hate the split cakes made from mixing brands because of the uneven wear as you're using them

i spend 115.00 on my wolfe kit...it looks like a lap top. It lasted a mere month and its plastic, so the hole that the plastic nobs go into..some of the little plastic around that broke so it doesn't shut all the way. A new one is 25.00 Why don't they make a nice durable one?

I suspect that the type of skin might have something to do with smudge/not smudge. Unfortunately Wolfe smudges on me (much like everything else), because i have terrible, oily skin =(((
My arm, though is nice and smooth, and it doesn't smudge there.

Wolfe smudges on me too, because of my really oily skin. But I see kids with it on at the amusement park all the time, and am amazed of the stay power.

Re: Pallets which do you like

Most all the palettes are the same thing based of the original Mehron case. They are laptop cases with foam insert. Wolfe does not have a palette. One store sells Wolfe and Kryolan in generic palettes - these are put together by the store not the manufacturers.

If I were starting out today and already have some paints I'd simply buy a plain Mehron case and build it from there.

I have six Mehron palettes that are in excellent condition all over 5-6 years of heavy usage. I have
one knock-off sent to me from SF when I ordered a Mehron - the store it seems decided to choose their generic for me! - it's held up well for 5 yrs.

Sorry, when you say foam inserts - I guess I am just confused about what exactly the stores sell. That's probably why I was hesitant to buy a case, because the "foam" confusing me - are the "cups" for the paints made of foam? Shouldn't they be plastic?
