Re: My process- very image heavy

I finally found a recipe I like! I've been using the one from Amerikan Body Art. I love their oil mix/ the geraniums in it.
Lonnie,
In fact, I just ordered some more henna as I'd used up the bag you sent me! That was some great henna to learn w/ and although it was old, it still worked great!
My daughter has become a henna fan & loves to make henna designs.
My next venture is to learn how to roll cones. The Jac bottles are too painful & clog to much for my liking.

Desdemona of ABA taught me how to roll a cone at FABAIC and I got really good at it but I also like the bottle and the trick with the bottle is to keep them upside down at a tilt so the henna is always ready to come out and you don't have to squeeze hard or shake it to get it down to the tip. I also do this with my liquid bling.

Don't think i will be attempting to make any henna, maybe down the road, but for now I will just get it ready made from ABA. I was able to bring some home that was made in class and the cones i made are in my freezer...now just need to try something

So excited! I just made my first batch of henna tonight. I can't wait to see how it works. Thanks everyone for sharing what works for you. I'll share my newbie results, for better or worse.

From what I understand about the basic chemistry of dye release is that you need something acidic to make that happen. Lemon juice, vinegar...etc. I'm not the most experienced on here, but I'm pretty sure that if you just added water it's not going to stain. How thick is it? like massed potatoes or thicker. if it's thicker you may be able to add some lemon juice to it.

BTW...I never add water, just lemon juice & essenital oils.

okay--well, it turned out well, but it's not staining dark. It's been several hours, and I can see it orange, but not dark. It's like yogurt. I've learned I guess!

Linda is dead on about dye release and It takes more than several hours to get dark...it takes between 24-48 hours to get dark - 72 hours to reach your full color in some cases....and aftercare can really help!

This may help you on that one

Hang in there and see what happens!

Some people do mix with water only. It tends to darken faster and fade faster with just water.
