Grimas reviews please :)
Hi guys,
We don't get a heck of a lot of decent paint here in NZ it would seem but I've sound some grimas on special and am wondering if it's worth getting some - would love to hear your thoughts please.
I'm just starting out so don't really know what I like yet, would it be a good place to start or am I better off with DFX/Wolfe/Paradise etc.?
thanks guys!

Re: Grimas reviews please :)
for base it's really fine...nice, but not very bright hard colours...not good for linework though! very nice metallic colours...
Re: Grimas reviews please :)
Thanks Michelle,
I've ordered Wolfe black and white to do the majority of my line work along with the essentials palette (I'm presuming their other colours are as good for linework?) so it's really for bases i'm needing to get set up - sounds like it might be a good option then
at 40% off it comes down to a reasonable price!

Re: Grimas reviews please :)
all dfX colours are good for lining...and grimas will do fine as a base...easy to wash off...many colours to choose from....
Re: Grimas reviews please :)
I like Grimas. The Silver Pearl is awesome, and some of the regular colours are really great - solid and bright.
However... the Grimas Pure line isn't worth it. Weak and more difficult to work with.
And yes, great for bases, more difficult to use for line work but it is possible.

Re: Grimas reviews please :)
Am I allowed to put a link to another site to have you guys clarify for me please? Hope so as Grimas isn't sold on here (or to NZ easily)... could someone please take a look and tell me if these are the 'pure' ones? i'm new to this all and the site's not giving much info - had had a look at the grimas site but i'm a bit puzzled.

Click on 'Paints' on the left hand side, then on specials
thanks for the help guys!

I think you might need to call and ask them if it is "Pure" or regular. The "Pure" has no preservatives, etc. in it. I think this all looks like regular Grimas though but they don't give much info on their site (not even the colour number codes so you can match up the colours with what you have!)
Re: Grimas reviews please :)
yea it's pretty lacking huh! I've sent them an email but will give them a bell to find out - thanks Shannon
Re: Grimas reviews please :)
They are not cheap considering I usually buy my paradise for at least $1-$2 cheaper, it doesn't sound like much but when you are buying multiple cakes often it adds up. So if the Grimas is on sale - grab it I say.
Why would the DFX that comes from Adelaide, be the same price as Paradise that comes from the US.? Seems strange to me but I don't know how these things work.
You might try asking Kat, she's lives in Tasmania so she might have a couple of suggestions for you.
Is the shipping from Australia to there a lot? It shouldn't be if it is.

Re: Grimas reviews please :)
Mmmm so apparently it is only the pure range they have
Tash, Kat? Shipping depends, sometimes it's ridiculous, sometimes not so bad

Re: Grimas reviews please :)
and I don't think it's that cheap either...I pay 5 euro for a case of 15 ml...that's about 7 amer. $...don't know about australian $...but 13 $ to begin with is a high price....
Re: Grimas reviews please :)
we don't have a heck of a lot of options here in NZ unfortunately - think I'm gonna give it a miss though being the pure range with the feedback you guys have given
Re: Grimas reviews please :)
Yeah... I have to say I was massively disappointed in the "Pure"... the white and black were put through the wringer on a production of the Jungle Book with me... and a crew of 2 relatively experienced face painters (my assistants) who usually work with Snaz/Kryolan, and 4 complete newbies and some no-clue moms who helped get the bases on.
NO ONE could get a decent base with the Grimas Pure, not even me. We were working fast and it was useless. Even the no-clue moms managed to get a decent (for theatre and the distances involved) base with Snaz and Kryolan.
My main assistant was quite vocal in her opinion of it as we would all "accidentally" end up with the cakes at some point (Hey, I wasn't taking it home cause I didn't want it myself!! I wanted it used up!) and have to try to make it work.
I haven't tried the other colours but based on the rigourous testing the black and white were put to I wouldn't want to waste my money on them.

thanks Shannon for your suggestion and feedback - i'm very much starting out so don't want to go anywhere near it if it's going to be difficult to work with!
