Woohoo NEW Mehron prisma splitcakes.... I'm in heaven!

Post by Tash on Thu Jun 17, 2010 11:16 pm

They have just arrived in the Mehron store and I don't think they have made it to the shores of OZ yet but I am so excited about this product.... I can't wait. check it out......

Ok so maybe it's just me....... but I love 'em, so I'm sharing.

P.s. I have just recently found out that the Metallic's by Mehron have NOT been ok'd by Jinny, they are not part of the Jinny prefered range and therefore do not live up to the standard.
She is working on this issue with them atm.

pretty cool, you can make them yourself, though. They dont' come out factory pretty, but they work great. I use a sculpting knife to cut the paints and squish them into bead boxes. Paradise isn't quite as easy to cut as dfx or wolfe, but not too bad. I get the plastic bead boxes with hinge top from walmart. I sold them on ebay for a while, but I just make them on request now. You should try making them yourself before spending all that money on the blend cakes. Madhatter magic shop sells paradise for 5.95 USD, so it can save you a lot of money to make them yourself. You can even use some of the paint left over in your paradise AQ pots. It works well because it's more moist and pliable than a paint in a new pot and you don't have to cut into new paint. Of course when I sold them I used new paint LOL, but if it's just for yourself it's fine.

I saw them at FABAIC, they look to be the same size as the large DFX splits, so I'd say it's not too bad in comparing the prices. (These companies really should tell people the amount of paint they are getting for the price).

I saw them at FABAIC. I was tempted to buy them, but still have so many bead box splits, I couldn't justify it.

Actually Paradise is one of the least pricey of the paints in my personal opinion. Of course that is relative. You have to love what you're doing because if you stop and think about how much your paints cost, you'd be stuck on stupid trying to justify USING them on someone who'll just wash it off later. Buy a little over time and you can amass a nice little kit. Unless you're like Shannon and aspire to open your own makeup supply warehouse... Razz

Well, maybe ASPIRE was too week a word...
I SUPPOSE all you really have left to do is post your price list and open the doors. Razz

I carry everything EXCEPT Paradise...

Oh, and I had a look at these Mehron Prisma Cakes...they are just split cakes with straighter edges than other brands aren't they? made with Paradise I assume.

All I can say is that for $15 US per cake it is way cheaper to cut a slice out of your cakes yourself - then you have a split cake, and still have most of your original cake left to use.

that's exactly what I was trying to say. Mehron is not pricey, but the blend cakes are pricey when you can save like $10 each making them yourself, plus it's custom for your designs

Ha... you guys are agreeing, only in complete opposite ways. Laughing

What's even funnier is I agree with you both. I don't make my own splits very often, because it's not worth it to me to buy a cake of every color just to cut into it. But, I also don't buy splits very often, because they are too expensive penny-per-ounce.

So I am conflicted scratch... I guess I solve this by buying an occasional split, if one really strikes my fancy. And I make a palatte of greens for leaves.

I make my own.... most of the time.

I've been given several DFX Blenders as gifts - have to admit the neon rainbow is HUGELY popular. I will make my own out of whatever I have on hand when I need to replace it.

I bought two mini DFX rainbows at a convention but took them out of the stupid little container and put them in my palette. Also, I bought two Grimas Rainbows made by FacePaintUK when I was in the UK several years ago (before all the hype started!) And I admit to buying Snaz rainbows when they had them - but they were to re-sell at my workshops.

Most of my in-use splits I made though... I have quite a few.

... but Shannon has enough paint to survive a zombie apocalypse/ nuclear winter (but then would the zombies want to get painted like regular humans?)
