I have recouped all I have spent - $1500 so far? In 3 months. That is, if all of my money went back to pay back for paints, supplies, equipment. Now I am only replenishing supplies, so I get more "play" money for myself (and an actual paycheck, LOL).

I have spent , and spent, and spent

Post by FunFacesbyLori on Wed Oct 06, 2010 1:42 pm

Since last year, I have spent at least 1200 on the kit and 2500 on supplies like chairs, tents, ad banners and signage. It really adds up. I can tell you the signage is worth its price in gold. I love it. Good brushes are a great investment. I recently found my silver metal case with arm strap at Lowes for $24.99 just like the one on Silly Farm for $130! It has lasted me for some time and is very sturdy and comes with holders for brushes on the lid when you open it up. It also comes with a compartmental system where you make your own channels in it for storing paint, etc. I have the Snazaroo pro-pallet with the 50 colors and it fits in there on top of my other items perfectly! A really good find.

Sorry, I was laughing my head off at the thought of EVER recouping my expenditures....

HOWEVER... I do make a profit now and it is growing year over year... particularly since I stopped buying things I didn't need.

I was spending $8000 on supplies & equipment a year!! So I cut back and now only spend when I need to (last year UNDER $2000)

This is a part-time income for me - my passion, yes, but not a livable wage in my area. So I still have the 40+hr/week dayjob.

My make-up income is approx 1/3 of my total gross income at this point.

I am making a profit now that I've limited my buying. I buy to replace & get 1-2 items for fun each time. It's not a lot, but it helps the hubby to pay the bills & lets him be a college student. Face Painting also satisfies my artistic side!

I will be perfectly honest I know I have dropped at least 500.00 in supplies + but i have no idea what the total is. Some stuff like tent tables chairs I already had which i also consider part of my kit. I need to invest in new signs now for my "pay side".

I have probably broken even now but I do ton of charity events for local animal rescues and Blue Ridge Boxer Rescue who I do their website and foster for that really eats into any profit I make.

I'm just now really to start getting pay gigs...Princess parties seem to be the thing im getting noted for.

Re: How Much Is Your Kit Worth?

I just spent another $200 on glue, paints and split cakes. I also had to pick up a "training kit" for the refuges I'm doing a workshop with but I think I'll swallow that one and off load it on my good deed fund. So my kit has cost me about $1500 au and I still need signs, a tent and more business cards (I only have about 200 left and tend to give them out like candy) but I will wait until I have a few more paid gigs to get them.

I found a lot of stuff I needed around the house, brushes, water pots, spray bottles and the like and invested in a really great kit. I do spend a lot on brushes, I just added them all up and I have 45, lots of loew corrnel's, loads of TAG and artists first choice and one Escoda Barroco round #2. It is my most beloved brush, hand made, triple crimped ferule, sharp tip and a beautiful handle. I cant wait to get some more of them but there expensive.

I cant decide what I like about face painting more, beautiful brushes or amazing colours.

Face painters anonymous anyone...

Who the heck started this thread??.....egads!!! What a Face

I spent WAY too much at the conventions I've been too, Embarassed but have reeled myself in as of late because I drive a jeep wrangler and if I can't lift my FatMax up to the seat, it's not going to the gig.....and it was getting kinda heavy.

I'm making a profit this year, finally, since I quit buying so much, and it's paying for my twin daughters 2nd year of college right now. This is my second job as I work 40 hours/week at a sign shop. I also have a 3rd job too.....sigh.

Shannon,
I guess you've put all that Bach Blue that you bought up in the bank vault instead of the basement huh?..... Razz

Shannon I have that color in my Kryolan palettes (2). I am almost afraid to use it, since I think it was you that said it wasn't being made anymore. Sad

According to my insurance company $587.23. After the appeal (thank heavens I scan my receipts) $784.32. Didn't replace all I lost, but it helped. Rolling Eyes
