Hello from Arkansas!

Post by cricket3_2000 on Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:23 pm

Hello everyone. My name is Christi. I have always volunteered to paint at events at school, church or work. It wasn't until a couple of years ago I came across professional face painting. At that time I did not pursue it because of school. But in May of this year, I heard there was going to be a festival in my little town and decided to give it a whirl. I am hooked! Most of my faces right now are copies of other designs I have gotten from books, other fp websites, youtube. I only have that one' under my belt so the speed is not there yet. I will have my second event on July 23 and another one August 28th. Both are festivals. Any tips are welcome! I am really nervous! I have a practice dummy, but it is not the same as working on real skin. I have trouble with it staining too! Hope it doesn't do that to the kids! I will be 45 and am half way through with college to become an Art Teacher. If I could work this full time and be able to have retirement I would! lol So I will stay in school and do this as additional income. I have a lot to learn about painting and getting this business going. I'm sure this forum is going to help me! Thank you for having me on this forum! Smile

Hello Cricket & welcome! Make sure to read old posts. There's a wealth of info on here! I've never met anyone who LIKES practicing on a practice head.... and they always stain. Some skin types do stain a bit. Just tell them to wash their faces w/ baby shampoo(kids shampoo) & if it does stain a but to use moisturizer & wash it again in 30 min.

Thank you everyone! Psalmbook, I will remember that about the baby shampoo. Smile Hopefully with help from this forum and practice I will be able to create my own designs and not look at others pictures to go by! Smile

Hello & welcome to the group. I spray my practice head with hairspray before I paint & the paint just washes off. I suppose it depends what type of practice head you have though. Here's a pic of mine

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

You may see a little purple on the forehead, that was before I knew about the hairspray, hope this helps.

Welcome to the site, you'll find loads of tips and heaps of inspiration from the amazing artist on the forum that are far too modest about their work.
