Hello....

Post by facefantasy on Sat Jul 24, 2010 8:28 pm

Wow, what a wonderful forum this is! I have been lurking and reading posts for weeks now, trying to take in all the info that I can. I am a beginning facepainter, in southern York County, PA. I have painted using many different mediums, but am fairly new to face painting and I LOVE it!

I have done a couple gigs, fundraisers, and am trying so hard to learn.....I have a few questions, and I am hoping someone can answer.

What paints do you use when doing an event that is outside in hot weather, and what do you do to keep the paints from being affected by the heat?

Also, I have read about a convention......but not sure where and when and can beginners go? Will I be totally out of place since I am just starting? Are there classes?

Also, are your designs always consistant, do you have some kind of guide or are they mostly just done from memory?

Thanks so much for any help.......Any pointers.....

Deb, welcome to the forum. A lot of your questions can be answered by looking into the archives(though they can be hard to navigate).
There are also sections to post questions depending on the topic. You'll get more replies in those areas.

Heat is tough on all paints but especially snazaroo. I've read keeping your paints sitting on an ice pack can help or rotating them in & out of a cooler for your frequently used colors(black/white).

There are several conventions, so keep your eyes open for the best one for your location/schedule. They are great for beginners & you will get loads of info & training from them.

I started w/ painting from pictures on an idea board & have since moved into painting from memory. My designs are never consistent. I change them up all the time(so I don't get board). Also, if the child is squirmy, won't look up, etc... it can effect the quality of the design. Learning sponging & brush techniques will help w/ consistency... and practice, practice, practice. I just sit w/ a paint brush & practice sponge work, line work, tear drops, lines, etc on my arm while watching tv.

Enjoy the forum!

Thanks so much for your answers.... I am using snazaroo, maybe I need to start replacing that with another brand and use the ice. Great tip!

ditto what Psalm said.

At the conventions, there's all sorts of skill levels, so don't feel intimidated! The classes are good, but the jam sessions can be a real source of support too. Just start painting (on someone or your arm) and people will come up and offer help with your technique!

Welcome to our group!
