Barbie

Thanks for posting the photo. can i ask what you used for the split cakes you made? they look deep. do you have any problems getting the color onto sponges or do you just use brushes with them?

thanks

To answer your question about my splits - they are the usual Plano or Jambeau compartment boxes. I found them most expensive when they are marketed for "artists" and least expensive when for "fishing" - so I buy them at a fishing/camping store. I AM very happy with them because my 3/4" and 1" brushes fit in perfectly and having a very high lip - everything is less messy (less transfer to neighboring compartments).

BUT, I also use these (though waaaay bigger) for my DFX paints, and am NOT happy - they are too deep for sponging. The sponge fits in well, but the paint on the tall sides of the compartment gets all over my fingers and the *sides* of the sponge, and it makes for a messy painter. I need to rethink that.

So in short (ha ha) - they tall lips are wonderful if you are sure you will only be using brushes. Not great for sponges though Smile

Oh, and the FatMax is extremely stable! I know it does not look like it. But you will see, once you play with one - it does not budge. The top part that hangs over only looks precarious - it is very strong and very stable and is not going anywhere no matter how much you load on it.

You really need to go and touch one and open it in order to really judge it is for you...

Thanks so much Barbie for the info on the FatMax. I actually went and looked at one at Home Depot this morning.......opened it and rolled it around..didn't but it today, wanted to come home and look at my supplies and see what would fit. Have to work in the am, might stop by and get it tomorrow. Looks like it would be easier to set up and tranport than a table and the container I use now. Will let you know LOL

Be careful how much you load on the lid part of the table. It will start to sag if overloaded. I lay one tray of paints on it & a few light things. I put the majority of my stuff on my laptop covering the open side. I was told screwing plastic screws into the top of the handle will help give more support to the lid, but haven't tried it. I also know of people who've made a wooden "T" to help support the lid, but that's one more thing to carry. I'm still thinking it over in my head as I fear the lid will some day break off....

OH I am glad you mentioned this. It seemed so stable, I didn't know others had problems with it. I will be careful, to "save" mine!

I put my individual cakes and arty cakes in the lid itself. There are 'compartments' in the lid that are the perfect size for a cake.

I like how I have everything (thanks to everyone's pics) but do need to tweek a few things. Not doing a table anymore, so liberating!! Did a timed run on set up, less than 3 min including getting water! SHUT UP!! Thanks for the heads up about the lid wearing out eventually. LOVE you people on here!! YAY!!! bounce

I like everything at the top tier so I don't have to bend. I'm 5'4" so it's the right height when I stand, but if taller then I think my arm and back would ache. Not sure. I need to work something out when i'm sitting and want the paints in the middle or lower tiers.

The large white pallette is from Michaels. A few dollars, in the paint brush section. I just realized I have too many brushes! Smile

I'm starting to like the idea of getting one..it looks like it will make my set up easier, my only concern is that it looks like you can only work with it while standing...I have back aches off and on and I need to sit down.. How do u guys manage that? Question

No, I know of painters who sit w/ 2 stools next to it & do just fine.

I actually find it *easier* to work out of sitting down - you can easily access all three levels. When standing you will notice that many of us try to put our most-accessed things on the top level - even then to load the brush etc. it is still a bit of a stoop down or back bend for many of us! Give it a try at a Lowes...

For me I like the freedom to move around (I get better angles when painting someone's right face side - my weak spot!) so I will be standing. But in general if I were a better painter I would prefer to keep seated! (Maybe I should just practise painting my weaker side, eh!?)

Re: Bought a new FatMax... love it, but....

Post by ChangingFaceDesigns on Sat Aug 14, 2010 2:26 am

So later today I will be doing a smaller scale childrens carnival......now that I think about it I really need to be sleeping right now instead of posting. Anyway today wil be the debut of my Fatmax set up. I have had it loaded up since I got it a lil over a week ago and have been working out of it at home. I am pretty pleased with the placement of items/accessories, so it should all run smoothly.....(at least in a perfect world anyway).

My main purpose for the Fatmax was to have a place to securely and neatly house all my FP stuff in one place thus reclaiming my dining room...for actual dining....lol also as my work station for smaller scaled events/parties where carrying my table would just be too bothersome/cumbersome to deal with.

Will let xha know how things go......will try to take pics

I have been thinking of the fatmax for a year. Why not, I deserve it. If I don't like it, I have no doubt my husband will find a use for it in the garage. Going shopping!
