Thinking of taking up twisting

Post by jnjkoz on Fri Jul 30, 2010 7:48 pm

Okay, so I am thinking of taking up twisting. I have never done it. I was wondering, how difficult is it to do really? As opposed to face painting that really took me over a year to feel as if I really could do this cyclops feeling. Is it something that is usually pretty easy to pick up, or rather hard? I have seen some pretty elaborate balloons, I am sure that takes a long time to master...I am not sure if I could remember how to twist some of these...

any input is appreciated.

Thanks

I think the hardest part of twisting is losing the fear of them popping in your face. I started by holding them off to the side – with time, I lost the fear. There are only about a half dozen twists to learn. Most balloons are comprised of various combinations of those twists. You learn how to think in twist combinations and soon you can make lots of cool things. My son in law picked it up very quickly. He learned how to do all of the basic twists in an afternoon – then it was just practicing proportions. As with everything practice, practice, practice. Youtube is full of tutorials. Get some 260's, a pump and spend some time learning in front of your computer. Have fun Very Happy

I agree w/ rosie. It's also remembering how much air is in each design. I learned a few simple things & just did those for years. Then I discovered youtube & the twisting took off. My daughter really loves it & picked it up quickly. She started in October & is already doing some more complex designs. Don't waste $ on the twisting books. Most are hard to understand & the cheap balloons & pumps aren't worth it. 260 Qualatex(sp?) are good for starting.
I'm not sure of the best place to order(I get mine locally).
