Princess & the Frog

Post by Psalmbook on Thu Aug 05, 2010 10:43 pm

Since the movie The Princess & the Frog came out I've gotten a few request for it. I usually give the child a Mardi-Gras mask, but have noticed, while they think it's pretty, it's not really what they want. I've also tried a frog lady(it was quite awful)Any suggestions or pics of what you've come up with? This would have made a great TAG...

I find with stuff like that cheek art of the characters is easiest. It's too hard to make a mask look like the cartoon. The firefly, the frogs of course, the crocodile, and the voodoo guy would all be good characters.

Have you asked them if they wanted to be the "princess", the frog, skull witch doctor or what? And then improvise from that?

What about a mardi gras mask with the frog princess as the center of the forehead. Just a quick version.
Maybe they want the princess or the sorcerer...or voodoo doctor?

My big problem w/ doing the princess is she is the same color as most the kids wanting the design. She just doesn't show up brown on brown & I can't "lighten" her because she wouldn't look like. I'm thinking the Mardi gras mask w/ a crown wearing girlie frog in the center....

I had one earlier this year and the mom specified Princess and the Frog. Here are a couple I came up with.

Tiana's Crown

Dr. Facilier (voodoo man)

They both need some work, I haven't quite gotten around to it though. Both were really popular at the themed party.

Oooh, those are cool! Apparently things like that don't catch on much here in my area, because I never get requests like that. Sad I'd love it if I had some more inventive kids, I love a challenge!

The snake could be done like the standard around-the-face-snake, just change the face a bit, and make round shapes instead of stripes?

If you're going to paint Tiana as a cheek art and the little girl is already Tiana's color, then just use their skin tone as the base! There are no "rules" to face painting... Just go with what looks right!

Freaking love the voodoo villain Liz! I am soooo stealing that! Princess and the Frog are some of my most requested designs because I live in an area where it's really popular. thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you Liz! I'll remember the crown & the voodoo guy(love the bone necklace).
My area is very popular for it also because so many people re-settled here after Katrina.

What about the frog-over-the-mouth design that's on the cover of Funky faces? Put a little crown on it. It was one of my daughter's favorites.
