Re: Starblends Versus Ben Nye Magicakes
I was kinda confused on the Magicakes, thanks for the review!!!
Re: Starblends Versus Ben Nye Magicakes
update - okay had a chance tp test these out in HOT houston weather
My final conclusion:
1. Starblends black used wet is messy and not vibrant - Using Magicakes black is alot better
2. They do not last longer nor are they more resistant to sweating
3. They are however easier to remove with soap and water, but harder to remove with a baby wipe.
that all - a bit disappointed about the sweating

WAIT, WHAT!?! That stinks, I got starblends with the hopes of at least a little more sweat proofness. Oh well, thanks bunches for the reviews!!
Re: Starblends Versus Ben Nye Magicakes
We have hot & humid in Florida & while they are not vibrant like paint, Starblends give pretty good coverage(except purple). I use a smoothie blender per color(or at least a side per color). If a child is a little sweaty, they need to pat dry w/ a paper towel 1st(this helps). Again, it doesn't look perfect, but works better than paint which melts as you apply it. I use them only for the worst conditions, for really little girls butterflies & boys who are squirmy(as the child can't feel them on their face).

This is w/ Starblends & is one of my 1st photos

could you show me what the other pinks look like dry? I love my starblend pink and I use that the most.

Re: Starblends Versus Ben Nye Magicakes
melisadill - personally I think the smeariness of it was the same as my wolfe...
I asked the mom to pat the design with a paper towel, however, it did not help at all - it still ran like crazy and got all smeary. And the patting kinda of transfered other colors elsewhere so it made it look even worse.
When I tried to fix a design with a baby wipe, it kinda just smeared all over more.... not sure why, but as soon as soap and water hit the design - it was gone.
Psalmbook - I didn't mind that it wasn't vibrant, I was mainly wanting the staying power - but for some reason - when using the black wet, it starts off black and then turns grayish
Suzy - Will try to get a picture for you suzy - just got home and a bit tired so I will try to remember

For people who sweat profusely...I don't think there is a product made to stand up to that...lol We have had our fair share of hazy hot & humid days here in Jersey this summer and I tell ya, I am glad I had my starblends as a go to. I was pleased with the results I was able to achieve.
Re: Starblends Versus Ben Nye Magicakes
Some of the starblends are great and some of them are barely pigmented, which means you waste a ton of product and are MAJORLY slowed down by constantly having to go over the same spot OVER and OVER. A few of the colors are great though, it's been a while since I used them but I remember the purple, pink, red, orangeyellow and green being very nice. I do remember the white sucked but the black was okay. I'm just getting into trying the ben nyes now so I can't speak for them just yet.

Re: Starblends Versus Ben Nye Magicakes
Let me clarify... pat down before you "paint"
I agree that the powders are not perfect, but are a lifesaver when paint just won't work.
Here's the pink & orange in a kitty I did(this is Ben Nye Lumiere). This was at an outdoor event w/ the worst humidity. Thirty minutes after painting this the biggest thunderstorm rolled in & we got drenched.

...lol.. oh you ,mean pat the sweat off of them.... yes - I already do that.... i couldn't even imagine painting anyone sopping wet... eewww.. lol
Re: Starblends Versus Ben Nye Magicakes
I hate the invisable sweaters.... you think they're dry & then as soon as the paint or powder hits them it starts running or they looks all patchy.
Re: Starblends Versus Ben Nye Magicakes
the powders don't go on well if the person being painted is wearing sun block
i like the starblends dry, and the ben nye wet. the ben nye is made to be applied with a sealer, that they sell...not water. the colors are so vibrant!
i just painted at fantasy fest...i did all my body painted cats with orange starblends and a kabuki brush i could paint a whole person in les than 30 min...and, just hair spray afterwards i saw people i had painted that had been out dancing hours later...and they were still fine. the starblend isn't as vibrant as other make-ups but, the quick application is a trade off
imho
i just have this one picture of a cheatah top, but you can see the color of the orange starblend...it's been hair sprayed, which i think makes the color more vivid

the blue behind the rose is magic cake used wet...also painted at fantasy fest
