Some of your wings have what appears to be holes throughout the design. How do you do that without runs in the stockings? Your designs are amazing by the way!

Sorry, now that I watched the video, I see how you did the holes! Another question, once the stocking is over the wire, and you draw on the designs, do you paint both sides or does the paint just go through the stocking? I am just so amazed at your wings, I HAVE to try this!

thanks for asking, I didn't cover that did I? Some of the paint, does go through the stocking but not completely. Truthfully the back does not really show much, but I do like to finish the backs because at least the tips can show from the front a little. Also sometimes I loose track which is front or back in the beginning of the process so if both sides look finished it's not as big a deal if I made a mistake Wink

You know that part in Peter Pan (the storybook my Mom, who is 81 used to read me when I was small or the Stage Play with Mary Martin) where all the girls & boys have to clap their hands to save Tinkerbell.
.......because they believe in fairies?

I'm clapping because I believe you are! Very Happy

(not that you need savin'!)
I think your work just ROCKS!!!!

hey are AMAZING!! so motivated to try to make myself a pair to wear whilst painting!

I presume you just use the felts to mark out your design and then paint over or do you actually use them to make those swirls? thanks!

you presumed correctly Smile the felt markers are water soluble so I just paint over the design when I use them to map out the design. I rinse the wings off in the sink to try and get as much of the marker colour out actually.

Hi Metzpah,

I haven't had any time to have a go at making any wings yet. But when i was on the net I came across these wings & thought I'd share the pic with you, I wonder what their made out of? Aren't they just beautiful.

I think that maybe Twig the Fairy!
She travels the renaissance festival circuit throughout the states and is a joy to watch interact with the patrons. She only speaks by playing a funky double pipe (aulos I think it's called).
I am pretty sure those wings are a kind of cellophane, and they are gorgeous!
I have found instructions how to make that kind online too, but so far am okay just making the nylon kind Smile
Thanks for sharing Mandi!

Am I missing something? The video stops after the wings are being shaped.
I need to know how these are made, people! With all these glowing comments, I don't want to be out of the loop!
