I'm actually a little curious about this sort of thing as well- any recommendations out there for the easiest/more efficient way to transfer paint from one container to another?
I'd imagine that the methods for transferring different paint brands to new containers would vary too, since their consistences vary. Any tips there?

Most likely it's a fishing tackle box or a craft bits box.
Idon't do this as I like the way the paints look in the Mehron Pallet, but any paints you buy will come ut of their original container - albeit with a little encouragement. Most are like the consistency of plasticine. Sme need to be warmed up fr plyability and some need to be frozen or fridged if they are a bit soft.
You're right in assuming each one is different - even the same brand but in Metalics, or neon, will be a different consistancy. Just put some gloves on, grab a knife - some people suggest using a butter knife or a painters trowel so you don't get plastic bits in the paint from cutting them out of the containers.... and use your fingers to mush them into the boxes.
Keep in mind when you do this, your paints will no longer be marked with names, brands or colors, which can make it hard if you use multiple brands and need to keep track of whats what, etc.
The tackle boxes are great for home made splits though!
I just don't like seeing face painters use them so much because it could be anything in there - craft paint,... anything... so I prefer to see branded containers, with info on ingredients etc - but that's just the mum in me talking.

I used to use something similar.. it was a bead container from Michael's. I don't use it anymore mainly because it looks messy compared to the palette that I use now (which is the professional palette you can buy in the face paint forum shop)... my paints are snazaroo and don't fit snugly into the foam that comes with it, so I had to do some creative things with my hot glue gun, but it looks sooooooo much neater than the bead box did.

To put paints in another container... take them out of the one they are in and put in another.

If they are a different size/shape cut them to fit or simply smoosh them in...

There is no secret or special method... just dump, dig, cut or gouge them out of the container.

I got a simular container in the swap section, i got it from micheal's

however, I bought a larger bead container that fits all my DFX colors and my Snaz basic colors so I have been using that when traveling, I do prefer my large professional case, but use the smaller one when I need to travel light

I had them in a case like that for a while, but found it harder to sponge & switched back. I also like that in the original pots it is obvious I'm using face paint & not acrylic or some other such garbage.

I can't say I've tried it, but I don't know that face paints would mix like that? I suppose if you put them in the microwave to melt them you might be able to do it? Usually when people mix them, they mix them wet like watercolour paints. If you had some that you didn't mind the possibility of wasting, I suppose you could try it.

Razz Too funny. It seems so obvious now, but I was scared to death to touch or in any way alter my paints when I first got them for fear that I was going to do it the "wrong" way.

Depends on the type of paint, but most of the time yes, you can make your own colors. Some colors can be mixed very easily, others not so well.

I think she might be refering to how to make split cakes?

Perhaps this is what you mean? http://www.facepaintforum.com/how-d-you-do-that-f7/2-methods-of-making-rainbow-split-cakes-t569.htm?highlight=split+cake

I agree that the handmade palettes make it easier to get more colors, but these palettes do get messy and start looking unprofessional(I use this method so I know), plus it is hard to sponge from. I am planning to rework back to a neater palette myself.

I think these being clear, cloudy or white is why they looks so messy. Black plattes are easier to clean and look neater.

Just my take.

Thank you !
Split cakes are very lovely for butterfly ! I saw we can put differents colors on sponge but yes, it's more longer.
I try to explain me, my question is : I want to know if someone of you try (and be happy with) to do the same way that with the modeling past (ex: FIMO) and if it's easy to make a secondary color ( and have a solid one color cake uniform, ex with 2 primary colors : magenta+cyan= purple) to have a lot of colours, to win time (not to mixt on palett) and more choice for less money (before to be rich !) and to do myself the color i want.
Best regards Marie-F

You can indeed mix up your own colours by combining paints - take a hunk of green and a hunk of yellow and kneed them together to get a lighter yellowish green.

You can mix up colours you don't like to make a new colour or use up left over bits to create new colours.

It is easiest to put the pieces of paint (cakes I'm talking here) on a piece of plastic wrap or in a ziploc bag and kneed through the plastic, or wear plastic/rubber gloves.

Liquid paints, of course, are MUCH easier to mix!

You can even mix brands... it really isn't a problem to do so.
