Need to vent before I explode!!

So I'm getting married tomorrow afternoon...not the big fairy tale wedding I wanted but instead just me, my hubby-to-be and my children...which is what he wanted. And I'm fine with that. So we found a JP who would do it really cheap if we did it at his office during business hours. We figured that was fine because it was just going to be us and we didn't need to worry about other people getting time off work. Everything was fine until his mother laid on the guilt.

Kevin's whole thing about weddings is that he hates how they never seem to be about the couple getting married because you have to do this this way because this other person want it that way, and if you invite that person you have to invite that one too because otherwise people will get mad and blah blah blah. Well now his mother is insisting that she be there because we're not doing it right (I wonder which of her three marriages was done right...i know horrible thing to say but i'm really mad). So kevin pulls the whole "well, i'll talk to Nicole" thing to try and rid himself of the guilt and pass it onto me. He told her he'd see if I wanted to invite anyone from my family to be there....um HELLO!!! I'm the one who wanted the big wedding remember, I wanted everyone I ever met there. No in my family can come because we scheduled so quick and at a time of day when everyone is working.

So now i have to go to work tomorrow and work side by side with his mother for 8 hours and i'm sure she'll treat me like garbage the entire time. She's already done it to me several times when I haven't done something she wanted. I keep telling Kevin he's lucky I love him and that unlike his other girlfriends I had already been innoculated against just how horrible his mother can be before i ever started seeing him. He doesn't fully understand thatI have to spend 8 hours with her everyday and the fact that he threw it on me is going to make the day of my wedding h e double hockey sticks. I understand the whole his mom was making him feel horrible but he didn't have to pawn it off on me when he knew i don't want her there if my family can't be there.

Can you schedule a renewing of vows/ public event for family a few months down the line, or some get together to celebrate your wedding(private ceremony & public reception)?

Thanks everybody. Everything went ok today. My mother-in-law spent 8 hours not talking to me, not looking at me and when she did look at me gave me dirty looks. She showed up at the lawyer's office and I think she finally understood that I'm not some evil girl trying to ruin her son's life when I started crying. lol i couldn't help myself. i know it's so sappy when women say that they're just so happy that they're crying but that's what i did lol she took us out to dinner and did her best to make up for the rotten way she acted today. She acts like everything is about her and SHE was the only one not invited...no one was invited she wasthe only one who took it personally. but I think she's a little better now.


Linda, we are having a shin-dig to celebrate. We just don't know when or where haha I have a pretty big family (one of the reason's Kev didn't want to say our vows in front of everyone. that's a lot of people to let see some raw emotions for someone as private and shy as he is...he almost cried too) We'll probably rent a hall or something...wish cook out season wasn't drawing to a close! lol

Wait till your mum finds out HIS mum was there and she wasn't invited! hahahaha just kidding.
I have a love hate relationship with my inlaws too - they love to hate me..... 14 yrs later my man and I are not married, they are also strong Catholics and I'm non-religious so it's hard.
Good on you for celebrating your love for each other regardless!

I actually called my mom the night before at almost midnight crying. which made her feel special because my mother and I don't have a very good relationship so i don't call her for things like this but I did and she said "just because his mother isn't respecting what you two want to do doesn't mean we should all disrespect your wishes." Wow! was not expecting that from her haha go mom!
