Face Painting Ideas for All Adult/Blacklight Face Painting?

Post by Firebird FX on Fri Aug 27, 2010 12:03 am

I'm pretty new to face painting and I've just gotten the hang of doing kid's birthday parties, but today I got a call for a woman's birthday party at a bar/lounge. She says she wants it done with the uv reactive paint which I don't have on hand so she offered to buy it. I'm a bit worried because this is a bit out of my realm. Most of the images I've seen look too complicated for an event such as this. Anyone have any adult-friendly designs that'll look great under the blacklight and possible to do in under 6 minutes?

I do the same tigers, butterflies, masks, etc. Remember, black makes great dividing lines in your design. I have dfx uv paints & they make great bases, but not good linework.
The white, yellow, orange, green, & pink look great under black light. Purple & blue are very lacking(these colors have been discontinued & are not true UV anymore).
Other's might have more info(I've only played w/ blacklight & never done a gig).

I'm actually going to be doing UV painting at a friend's stag and doe laser tag party in a couple of weeks. Tigers, skulls, flames, fancy eye designs, eye balls, birds... you won't have many asking for cartoon characters, but most of your usual stuff will be fine. I have a Kryolan UV palette and while the colours look kind of translucent under normal lighting, they show up well under black lights.

my advice is to have a hand held black light close by while painting... It really helps to see how things are going especially with the white which is impossible to see without a black light. You don't have any neon colored DFX paint?

I don't use DFX (I'm allergic to it) but you may have been talking to the original poster about that one. I didn't check it, anyone know if snaz white glows at all under black lights? There's no white in the kryolan UV palette... but I can do it without the white glowing, no big deal.

Snaz white does NOT react under black light. I might be doing a UV sugar skull party, and played around a while ago - I'll likely end up using Snaz white as a base, then DFX UV white on top so you can see it with and without black lights.

I just did this to see what colors look like what under black light. The blue isn't even noticeable(it's all along the outer edge), but the yellow, orange & pink glow nicely. I don't have any green, purple or white, so I couldn't test it.

The purple and red are Kryolan; all the rest are DFX. Excuse the glow from the TV Razz

Oh wow, those look awesome. I'm thinking swirly eyes, tiger masks, hearts, shooting stars, butterflies, dragons, tribal...hm that's all I got. And nope, no neon dfx...all I have are the "essentials." I'm excited, I shall post pics. Hopefully all goes well...

Kristal that looks great..... I have all the colors with the exception of white, but I don't have a black light. I may just have to invest in one know. Anyone with anyideas on which handheld one would be best??

When I paint the staff at the club I work at I do use UV colours (Wolfe and Fardel mostly). The designs are almost all freeform/abstract stuff... swirls from the eyes, down the necks into the cleavage, down the waist onto the legs... The girls all want to accentuate the "positive" IYKWIM, wink wink, nudge nudge...

we bought a black light bulb from the dollar store and put it into a desk lamp LOL

I don't mind using the UV yellow over my regular white for "white" parts of a tiger or something... no big deal for one event for now. I'd have to find an alternative to DFX/Wolfe UV white if I were going to do more than just this one time.

I tried to buy a black light bulb at the dollar store - they said they only had them around Halloween, and last year someone bought all 2 dozen of them as soon as they were on the floor.

Ended going to Spencer's at the mall, and picked up an 18" (?) black light tube for $20, and it's pretty awesome! I doodled on my arm before going, and played with the ones on display. They had the bulbs, but it sounded like they weren't very good. The one I have isn't actually handheld; it's meant to be a wall mount, but I'll use it as I see fit!

The white is pretty cool - I love that it's invisible/barely visible in regular light, haha. It stuck around for a while after washing, but hey, it's invisible!
