About to make some paradise splits

Post by pjhamel on Mon Aug 30, 2010 9:53 pm

I have these three paradise palettes:

I am about to order new paints, so I am considering turning these into splits. Has anyone tried this before with these palettes? If so, how did it work out?

Also, which colors do you guys think will go best together? I am definitely going to do a black and white one, and one similar to Metina's small flames cake, but I have no idea what other color combinations to do.

Here is a color chart. Excluding the bottom row, I have these colors to work with:

Thanks in advance for the help!

teal and light green look really nice together. Then you can make sort of a 'pretty baby' type split that the girls love...

oooh. the teal and green one is great. I will definitely do that one, the pretty baby too if I have enough white.
Thanks!

The shades of green and yellow would make a great split for snakes, crocodiles and lizzards.

i say def do a light-to-dark blue for skies and celestial swirls, dolphins, flowers, butterflies, and a pink/purple for flowers, princess stuff, butterflies, etc.

i love the look of pale green, white, and pale pink for little flowers, or a bright pink and green for a watermelon look.
red next to blue is very striking, and good for boys, nautical, patriotic. if you live near a school or could see painting for one (or if college football is big there), maybe do some team colors?

I use orange and yellow a lot for Tigers and Monarch butterflies. Nothing fancy but I get a lot of use out of it! tongue

What kind of new paint are you ordering? Good luck with the splits.

I did the same thing, looked at other split cakes from certain websites & copied the ones I liked. The ones I've used more often & have used up I now order premade, so I don't really feel like I'm stealing(just giving them a test run).

I am ordering a mix of paradise and dfx.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, guys. I really appreciate the help. I am probably going to work on them this weekend, so I will definitely post some pics after.

When you make the split cakes, do you freeze the paint before cutting? I would like to make some from paradise paint and not sure how to do it. thanks!

To be honest, I have never made them with paradise before, only snaz, and those I didn't freeze. This thread has a lot of information on making them though. I am following the methods on there and will probably try a variety of them, as I plan on making several splits. I will let you know which one works best for me.

freezing helps

I like a leaf split... lime green to dark green then a sliver of purple in it.
I also like a sunset/rise, blue, pink, yellow (you can put orange between the yellow and pink if you want, but they'll blend to an orange anyway... super purdy)

I have made splits out of Paradise and I didn't do anything to them. Just cut them up a smooshed them in place. They consistency is very close to play-dough although it will mess up your fingers so using plastic gloves or clingwrap helps a lot.
I make all my own rainbows except neon as paradise don't make it - so I buy Tag.
I will say don't mix metallics with your regular with paradise - the metallic won't load up like the other colours - it needs more aggravation so it just doesn't work.

as for color combos I agree to look at what SF and Metina, are selling and check out the Prisma cakes mehron are selling and see if you can recreate them.
