Re: Tent walls DONE!
This is awesome! I really love the fact that any pics you take not only will have a black background, but also have your business name and design framing them!! Very smart!
Do you use lighting inside your tent? I would think the black might make it a little dim inside.

Re: Tent walls DONE!
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! With the amount of work that I put into it, it makes me feel so much better that it's liked!!! And I'm sorry ya'll! When I posted that I hit the sack cuz I was SO tired! And I have 3 small youngins, one in school, so this am has been busy too.
SO...here are the details: Suzy Sparkles is right, the original artist used the muslin material and acyrlics. If I remember correctly, she used ropes and a series of wholes at the top of the "walls" to hang hers. Well, I wanted the black and muslin wouldn't work for me, so what I used was canvas. When I hung it, I didn't want you to be able to see right thru, & that's why I did the canvas. It is Five foot wide so that is the length of the wall, no it does not go all the way to the ground. I wanted it that way for air flow. The original artist said that hers was a little shorter and it provided the flow, but once she extended it to the ground, there was none at all! So, what I'm gonna do is leave it like that for now, but once the cooler temps kick in, I'll add extra fabric. What I like about my design is that I can add the plain black at the bottom & it won't look weird or out of place and I won't have to do any more painting, yay!! So, now the paints was acrylics, and it has many coats on there, most are two, but with the orange it took 5!! Something i didn't want, but it happened anyway is it bled thru to the other side. Not bad, but yuck, oh well. Now for hanging it, I'm in that stage right now. I have an EZup & on the top canvas it has velcro strips that the original walls attach to. I am using those and putting velcro on my walls to attach. At the corners I am using velcro as well. I'm attatching white velcro to the legs and the material to use for stabilization. It's kinda hard to describe, but I'll show pics as soon as it's done. I'm an easy is best as long as it works, kinda chick. So for right now it's definately a trial thing. Once it's all together, I'm gonna leave it set up to see how everything holds together. Fingers crossed!! Bad news tho, it's raining today so it'll have to be tomorrow, poo!
Now someone mentioned using the original walls that came with the tent. On my EZup, the walls are a vinyl kinda material. My husband has been in the house painting biz before and he said that the paint would start cracking and flaking off. The original artist also was in the decrative painting side and she said the same thing! So, be careful what type material you choose to paint on!
Um, don't think...oh, ok. The way I got the design on the material is I looked on the internet to get inspiration of what I already had in my mind I wanted it to look like. I got a white pencil that you can get in just about any sewing department and used that to draw with. I just free handed it, so it's certainly not perfect(especially the stars!) You can use baby wipes to erase or the end of the pencil(there is a brush thingy). Now for my letters, I got on my computer, chose a font I liked and printed it out to the size I needed. Then I cut them out, used small pieces of tape to place on the banner and then traced around them and then of course painted it.
The black walls and darkness is a concern!! Not exactly sure what I'm gonna do with that. The top is white and the front is open, so, fingers crossed again, that will work. I can always take a wall down if needed. Another option is getting electricity and using white christmas lights. Just not sure yet, that's a glitch in my plan! Hehehe!
I think I covered all the questions, if there are any others, I'll be happy to answere! Thanks again ya'll!!

Re: Tent walls DONE!
I'll bet that for those who don't want have the paint show through the back (painting fabric nearly always bleeds, put something under it!), it would be simple to attach any fabric walls you've painted directly to the inside of your original walls! then the velcro would already be on there and everything.
I think bright colors like this would look just as lovely on white, as well, if lighting is a concern.
You can use textile medium mixed into the acrylic paint to give it a bit more flexibility and staying power, if you need to, and heat set it with the iron (tinfoil between iron and paint, because it can get melty) to really get it in there before you use it too much or wash it. how convenient to have machine washable walls!

Re: Tent walls DONE!
Be careful folding or rolling it. If it's warm the paints might stick to each other ruining the design.
Thank you for sharing how you did it!

Re: Tent walls DONE!
I use a string of led lights that are powered by a solar panel. Got them at Big Lots for $18 this summer.
Can't wait to see the tent set up!

Re: Tent walls DONE!
Thanks again ya'll! If anyone else does it, we gotta see!!
The tip on the lights is GREAT! Gonna search the web for those! And also liked the tip about folding/rolling it. Didn't think bout that, great heads up! Thanks ladies!!
So, good news, informational news and bad news! Good news first, got the tent set up, attached the walls and all was good with the velcro, YAY!! Informational news, the velcro I used at the top was 2 inch industrial strength and stayed GREAT! The velcro on the sides was 3/4 inch(ps perfect size)regular strength and kept wanting to come off. My hubby suggested ironing the fabric on the back side of where the velcro was to kinda heat the glue up to help it stick. Haven't done that yet, because of the bad news! Bad news, as I was taking my tent down it BROKE! Huge bummer, but new it was coming. The first use of the tent was for a garage sale, after the sale, it took flight! It got bent up but was still useable. Sence then I've used it a few times, but it finally did give up the ghost! SO, now I gotta go get another tent, NOT CHEAP!, and buy more velcro, cuz I need to attach my walls to that tent. So, I'll get industrial strenth 3/4 inch velcro when I go get more. Another tip is that when I went to close the tent, the velcro made the legs "thicker" so it didn't close as smooth, but still was fine. I put the "hook" part of the velcro on the legs and what I call the messy part of the velcro on the fabric.
Man I do talk a lot, lol!! Here are the pics. Hopefully it helps a little more.
This pic shows the top of the wall or my canvas piece and how it velcros to the tent roof velcro.

This one is how the side of the wall attatches to the tent legs.

This one you see that the walls attach to the "back" of the legs, but it still looks fine.

This is the whole setup. The spot light was there cuz it was night, wont have that for shows. Also it doesn't show my display cuz my hubby was working on it at the time.

This is what the display looks like. I actually have 2 of them. On one side I have the picture frames shown and on the other side are the door mirrors for "forever" mirrors. I will have one set up like it is with a mirror to the back for kids to look at themselves any time. The other display will be with the pic selection facing out and the mirror to the inside of the tent for the child to look at him/her self. The pic frames I got from Michaels on sale for only $5!! *Hadn't velcroed that wall to the back yet.* To stabilize the displays, there are holes at the top. My tent came with an awning option. So, I'm just gonna put one pole in and loop the rope from that pole to the display so that it doesn't tip. Gonna do the same with the one flush with the tent, just gonna loop the rope to the tent top. Also you can see there are wholes in the base. We got really long nails to put in those for when I'm on ground, I can stabilize it even more.

No, I'll never stop talking, LOL!!!!!!
