Re: Tent walls DONE!
I don't know if you have a Big Lots near you but this week ad has two pop up tents for about $60. (One was red and the other was stripes).
I have the same tent as what you showed in your pictures. Where did it break?

Re: Tent walls DONE!
Heads up on the Big Lots tent... DON'T buy the red one! I love the red, except it looks like a brothel underneath, and everything glows red. The boys all think I'm putting pink on them!
Re: Tent walls DONE!
Just a heads up on the christmas lights.............they do make battery operated lights, that run for a long time.
In addition to my FP business, I also have a custom designed wreath business. One of the biggest selling points to my wreaths and the reason why I sell out year after year is that by using the cordless lights if gives people the freedom to hang the wreaths wherever they wish in their homes without having to worry about an ugly cord showing.
I am winding down the FP side and gearing up for the holiday season. I take orders starting in late Sept, Oct. thru the 1st or 2nd week of Nov. depending on how swamped I get. I construct up until TG day for Dec. delivery.

I forgot to add great job on the walls. Beautiful design and what a great visual impact it has. I am inspired to try my hand at it, thank you so much for sharing with us.

Put samples or your work or a link to your site in the Breakroom section for your other business! We'd love to see it!

melisadill wrote:So, now the paints was acrylics, and it has many coats on there, most are two, but with the orange it took 5!! Something i didn't want, but it happened anyway is it bled thru to the other side.
My husband has been in the house painting biz before and he said that the paint would start cracking and flaking off. The original artist also was in the decrative painting side and she said the same thing! So, be careful what type material you choose to paint on!
First off, thanks for all this info on your process, how valuable for anyone who might consider doing something like this to hear about your experience.
As far as the paint lasting/not flaking, aside from the orange, when applying the paint was it necessary to make sure to penetrate the fabric at least somewhat?
I'm just thinking about my experience with acrylics and the tendency for it to peel away almost like rubber. It seems like you would need to make sure it really got into the fabric since it's not watery and will want to sit on top of the fabric...maybe peeling away after being manipulated a lot like when folding it after gigs.
Again thanks so much for sharing this, it's inspiring and what a fantastic job you did!
Re: Tent walls DONE!
I absolutely love the tent walls you made. They are so vibrant and fun. Very cool.
Re: Tent walls DONE!
Alright, UPDATE!!
I'm SO sorry that I get so busy, I can only pop in and out of here every now and then.
Question and answeres:
The tent took flight and flipped over catching part of my house on it's way. So really it was like bent really bad. I honestly don't think any tent could have survived that tumble. I was confident enough in it that I went back and purchaced the same one again. ($$, urg!)
More info on the paints. When painting, the colors did bleed thru to the back, not real bad, but you can definately tell there is a design of some sort on the other side. On the canvas the paints adhered to it well. I have used the walls several times now and there is no peeling at all. Unfortunately on the big back wall where there is a ton of white, there is some minor cracking. Because the walls are so big, I have to fold them and that's were the cracks are. It's not real noticable once it's up, but for me working so hard on them, a little frustrating. Not to mention my crazy perfectionist coming out, lol!
Wall concerns:
I was worried about lighting. NO worries at all! The white top provided plenty of light! And the bonus was that when the sun was in that weird spot that it always gets in, the walls blocked it and was very helpful. On that note, the walls block the wind too. So hair flying around is not a problem.
Another thing was it being really hot with the black walls. To my surprise people where happy to come into the tent to get out of the heat. They said it was cooler in than out. I guess cuz the walls are a little short, it allows for the wind to blow thru. And then on the flip side, I just did a festival that it was very cold. We took a heater that ran off propane and it kept the tent warm!!
MAJOR CHANGE:
Well so much for the easy velcro! Darn! I spent quite a few pennies getting all that stuff and I had a defect in my plan. On the EZup, the top slides over the legs when raising and lowering. Originally, I used a smaller less strength velcro on the leg part thinking as long as my top was ok, I was ok. Well, that stuff didn't stick to the canvas. So I went back and got the really strong stuff. It only came in a real wide width. So I had to cut it to fit. When I did, it wasn't a perfect cut and had areas with a very very small amount of glue on the jaged parts. Well that small amount grabed the legs and I about never got the tent to close. Kinda funny looking back. So what I then did was left the velcro on the top but went to the local fabric store and got a gromit setter. Placed the gromits down all the walls and used some bright pink rope to tie in place. Matches and holds. So, if ya do the make your own wall thing, GO WITH THE GROMITS! It was actually cheeper to use them than to get the velcro and it is just as easy.
So over all, I HIGHLY recommend making or getting walls. I LOVE MINE!!
I took a pic at the last festival I did but the stupid thing came out fuzzy, but ya get the idea. Really just so happy with everything!

And once again, thank you all SO much on the sweet sweet complements!!!
