Disney Designs?

Post by Kristal on Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:42 am

I've got a giant birthday at the end of September (who invites 50 kids to a birthday?! Apparently about 18 of them are under 2 though, phew.) and it's a Disney theme. I've told her that due to copyright laws yadda yadda, but I think I'd like to have some designs anyway, just in case.

Any ideas on quickie Disney designs? They've got Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Daisy and Donald coming (yes, they've hired 6 actors. Also myself and a twister and an air brush artist, and they've rented out a country club.); don't know how much I can shy away from cheek art - I might alter my rainbow/unicorn design and do a rainbow/character instead. I do know I'd like to not do the bow on the forehead for Minnie if I can help it...

Maybe suggest something like this to the kids: "I could paint you as a ________ just like in the movie _____________!" That way you avoid doing the actual Disney characters...

Dalmatian puppy face - 101 Dalmatians
Lion face - Lion King
Pirate face with the eyes on the cheeks - Pirates of the Caribbean
Penguin face - Mary Poppins, Happy Feet
Kitty face - Aristocats
Underwater face designs, seashells, etc. - Little Mermaid
Brown puppy face - Lady & Tramp
Princess crown - Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, etc.
...just off the top of my head.

Also, I recently saw on here some great Princess and the Frog designs.

Here's a list of animated Disney movies, to get those ideas flowing:

Wow! They must be spending more than we make in a month on the party. I did one of those my 1st year.

I'd stick w/ the Disney princess & Minnie(why not the bow?) for the girls.
Pirates(maybe a Jack Sparrow face), Micky, etc.

Most likely you'll just do butterflies, princesses & Spiderman Very Happy

the kids will probably like the usual stuff... although I do have an Ariel and tinkerbell design in my selections (yes it's just cheek art, but it's popular). Didn't Disney buy out the Marvel super hero movie things? I'd just put out my usual selections and if they ask for other stuff, do it if you're comfortable.

Jody Rodgers of Signature Glitter http://www.signatureglitter.com/ has an "ariel" likeness as a tattoo stencil...maybe she can make one out of plastic for a "real" reusable stencil? Also check out Faketoos Princess stencils and remember the silhouette

Thanks for the suggestions!

Oh, I'm totally counting on doing all of the usual faces; I find that the only times I usually get asked for whatever theme the party is, is from a parent trying to get something for their 2 year old. (I have no problem painting the teeny kidlets if they can sit still. Some 2 year olds are better than 8 year olds!)

Kids will, 99% of the time, get the same thing (with the random kid wanting to be a full face ferret or cartoon I've never heard of or something totally off kilter) - ok, maybe 98%. But some parents are awful saying "this is Kristal - she can paint ANYTHING you want!" (At which point I call out "within reason!") or "would you like a (name of obscure item/cartoon)" to their child, then, as an afterthought, ask me if I can do that.

Just want to be prepared Razz

(Linda, I met her at a birthday I do every year, and it's massive, too - not tons of kids, but pricey Razz Over the years they've had a pirate/magician, Cookie Monster and Elmo, Mickey and Minnie (I was Minnie!), hula dancers, bouncy castles, cotton candy machines and they're catered - plus with the exception of the year I was Minnie, I've always been there painting and twisting. I need more clients like them!)

LOL! Same here! I have a client that owns a big fast food chain who has quarterly bday parties for her grand kids & I paint for her. It's funny, because her zip code puts her in "the hood" but she's really right next to it in a multi-million dollar home on the river. She kept getting turned down by our local entertainers that won't work in that zip. Their loss, my gain. Now I also paint for many of her store's family fun days around the city(about 1 a month)! cheers

Watch out re disney tho, I have heard a few painters 'told off' by them for replicating Disney designs. And I was told in HK to take spiderman off my business cards since they bought out Marvel. Miserable gits:) Totally not legal of them..
