That's awesome, it's so great to have 2 painters in the family especially business-wise, being able to take larger gigs without having to look for someone to work with.

Being original and doing something unlike anything I've seen anybody else do for boy designs has proven to be quite the challenge. I've been asking my husband if he had any ideas, but he couldn't come up with anything. I was watching him play a video game one night when I had a "duh" moment. Almost every boy these days likes video games. Why not create a face for it?

Create the shape of an xbox controller with Wolfe white.

Using a round dauber, load it with Snaz light gray then roll the edges in Paradise gray. Lay the dauber down and twist it to create the darker shading on the outside of the circle.

Use Wolfe white to create an X.

Go over the X with Wolfe neon green.

Use the round dauber again loaded with the same colors and the same way to create control sticks. Use a larger one for the larger circle and a smaller one on the inside to create the smaller circle.

Use Paradise gray to create shading on the outside edges of the controller. I would move this to step number two if I did this design again.

Very cool, that would be great for a gaming convention, you could make different versions for the different manufacturers.

I'm always on the look out for 'fast' boys faces. Other than birthday gigs, I always seem to be at the gig with 45 children to paint in the last 20 minuets!! Here's a dragon I developed recently and my first submission to.... anything I think!! Shocked

materials
Brushes, 1 tiny brush and 1 2/5inch flat brush
Paints, Diamond FX split no. 3 and Diamond FX white

YOu can stencil some gold scales over the design if you want at the end. I used a grimas gold but if I were in a hurry I would leave it out.

Mountian biking design

Post by SusannaMosley on Tue Sep 21, 2010 11:04 am

1. Tools: Round brushes #1 and #4 and 1/2 inch flat brush

2. Paints: All colors are paradise except for wolfe white and black used for highlight and lowlighting.

3. Step 1 : Outline design to plan layout
Step 2: Taking flat brush load with colors and fill in empty areas. Mountians, water, sky, and rocks
Step 3 : Fill in smaller blank areas with # 4 round brush, apply med size details and larger shading with same brush. Boy on bike, bike, clothes, grass, and trees.
Step 4: Add highlights and then shadows to all. Add clouds too. #1 round brush
Step 5: Define more dominate designs like rocks and mountians with outlining and more shading. #1 round brush
Oh and I decided last minute to add a backpack to my rider Smile

I recently went to a seal shelter.(??)
It's a center for sick seals.
Anyway, I get this idea.
Not necessarily a boy's design but funny.

Things I've used.
DFX White,Gray and Black.
Sponge and round brush.

Re: Post Submissions Here!

Post by BluAngL83 on Wed Sep 22, 2010 10:19 am

So this is my wolverine step by step. Items used:
1/2 sponge
#5 (? the number rubbed off) brush
#8 brush
Wolfe White
Wolfe Black
DFX Neon Orange
DFX Yellow Golden
DFX Yellow
DFX Blue (neon? not sure. Hate that they dont put the name on the label)
DFX Red

Step 1:
I used the curved side of the sponge to pick up Neon Orange (on the edge), Yellow golden, and yellow and blended in a "V" shape down the middle of the face:

Step 2 & 3:
With a medium round brush, I carefully outlined the the blue part of the mask. Make sure the nose area isnt too wide. Then I sponged in the blue.

Step 4:
Using a #4 or 5 brush with Black, make the wrinkles/fierce expression around the eyes and nose:

Step 5:
Again, using the same brush and black, outline the mask and inbetween the colors:

You can finish it here for quick jobs or add a 5 o'clock shadow.

Step 6:
Usine a big round brush, paint in the mouth area kinda like a peanut shape and then outline it. Note: This step can actually go before the outlining in black but it depends on what you want the finished product to look like.

Step 7:
Using the other brush w/ black: add teeth to the mouth, add stuble (you can use a sponge too), widen the nose, and add more lines around the mouth and chin.

Step 8:
Using the Red, add in his gums

Final Product:

Clayton....resubmit your design. IMHO there are only so many main designs. If a person changes 1 thing, then in my opinion it is an original..... so what if it is inspired by someone else's design.... who really knows where the design was born in the first place.

Disney was inspired by a darn little mouse for goodness sakes! Shocked

Maybe the Wolfe Bros saw your work and were inspired to do their own and publish it in a book!! Very Happy

Absolutely Clayton. Your car looks different to the Wolfies one, so therefore it's original. As Judy said I totally agree with her & Anita.
The half dragon face that I submitted was inspired by the Wolfies as I have just come back from doing a course with them, so I'm totally inspired by them at the mo.

Thanks, the eagle was inspired by one from the Snazaroo site (but now I can't find the page!) but the artist is Catherine Pannulla (http://www.myspace.com/thepinupgirl/photos/42272025
