New website, whatcha think?

Post by melisadill on Fri Sep 03, 2010 2:46 pm

Just finished my site and would like some reviews. I just got an email about 2 errors on the first page, lol, talk about first impressions! (She's a friend, so it's ok.) But going to change that when I'm done here.

I'm not crazy about the few pics that are grainy/blurry in my gallery. But with time, i'll weed those out.

Last, I'm gonna get a domain name within the next few days so it's not a long address. So that'll help. But here it is...

Thanks!!

Is there a way to type "Click on the Arrow" or something for the gallery? I clicked on the first picture a couple of times before I saw the arrow and had to hover in just the right spot for the arrow to activate so I could click it.

Also, once the gallery shows the last pic you can't click on the arrow again to replay the pics, you have to refresh the web page which brings you back to your homepage and then go back to the gallery.

I like the gallery format looking like a book.

Beautiful! I love Wix; so easy!
I agree with the comment on the strange inability to go back pages in the gallery. Maybe try a different type of image display in Wix? There are several styles you can use, I know.
I like the white frame around the photo in the "Safety" section- it might look nice to use some sort of framing on all the non-gallery photos (but maybe not).
Your logo is beautiful! Did you just put it into your page as an image?

Now, the nick-picking fun:
There is a typo on the "Contact" page: "I hope that I have been able to answere all your questions,"

And the "Rates" page: "painter, dates fill very quickly". This should read, "painter as dates fill very quickly" or "painter; dates fill very quickly".

& "we will only work in doors with ac"- 'indoors' should be one word. I'm not certain whether it would be better to have "ac" written out of abbreviated differently; It makes sense as is.

"paints that are used is water based and melts" should be "paints that are used are water based and melt" or "paint that is used is water based and melts"

I'm not sure if the site as a whole is too wordy... I personally love having all that information handy when I'm browsing sites, but I know that many clients wont read it, especially if there are tons of words packed in. The best way to ensure that what you have to say is read is to keep it really simple, and use bullet points for key information. The rest of the details can be put on the contract.

The site is beautiful! I also love wix.com! It also took me a while to figure out how to page through your gallery. I'm not sure if I like the tilted angle, but that might just be a preference of mine. You could write "ac" as A/C". I think this is a the appropriate abbreviation.
On a funny side, I had "chilen's" instead of "children's" on my site for 6 months & never noticed(on the front page). Now I write everything into Word & then copy & paste it to my site.

Well crud! I didn't get these messages sent to my email, sorry I didn't respond before. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all the input!! I am horrible about going over my own work. I see what I want to see and not what is there. I appreciate the honest info!

I was worried about the gallery as well. The original format didn't have the arrow, I added that so you would know where to turn the page at. And to go back in the gallery you just go to the pic on the left at that top corner and flip back. There were other gallery options but I don't like the ones that just kinda scroll thru real quick and it's like you can't stop it. Those are SOOO annoying! BUT I want to make it easy, so I'm gonna have to figure something. Maybe another arrow, lol!

About the wordy thing, I was affraid of that too! I talk so stinkin much and I wanna share all that "important" info, lol!! Another goal was to not have to talk to people, hehehe! I have 3 small children and at any given moment things fall apart & I really don't want that to happen when I'm on the phone with a potential client! Which, it would probably be a parent who understands, but who knows.

The logo is something I put together using their clip art and changing the colors and layering it. Wasn't hard at all actually.

Psalmbook, we all have chilens, it's no biggie, ROFLOL!!

THANKS AGAIN for all your help and sweet complements!!

Yes, & my chilens are noisy, so I run for the bedroom when a client calls so I can have the semblance of a quiet office Very Happy

You'll only work indoors if there is A/C? Heck, I only ask to be indoors, I don't care about the temp!! Well, actually I do... when it is -40 I really prefer the A/C off!

It's bright simple and effective.
Was a little weird that I had to tilt my head to read it - but maybe that's just me. I think you did an awesome job all by yourself and with three little kids!
Where do you find the time?
The only thing I would change is the last line where you said you had had the honor of painting a 92year old young lady - I would have phrased it differently - I have even had the honor of painting a wonderful lady 92 years young!
Overall your site is really great I especially like your Safety and FAQ's.
Give yourself a pat on the back.

LOL Shannon! It's kinda funny cuz you and I are on seperate ends of the spectrim. Down here in those months, *you* will melt indoors or out, muchless the paints!! The humidity is so horrible, we are in an area only mins from the beach & AC is a absolute MUST!

Thanks so much Tash! And I do like that wording!

Now to find time to make all these changes, lol!!! Just kidding, kids are sleeping, think i'm good.... But sshhhh.....

Yes, FL is the same way. Air Conditioning is a must! I did 1 indoor gig w/o A/C & it was brutal & all the designs were melty(even w/ using powders).... no breeze, hot & stuffy, small room w/ 40 kids!
