I've made my own scale stencil

Post by Anita's Faces on Tue Sep 07, 2010 12:23 pm

I've made my own scale stencil of an orange net.
It gives a nice effect.

It is a orange net.
In the Netherlands our oranges are packed in a mesh bag.
Like Psalmbook says!!

You also can use a piece of bubble plastic for a nice effect.
Michelle has shown that once on a Dutch forum.
I've never tried it myself.

I just tried the bubble wrap & it was ok(my bubble wrap was a little old & probably not the best test subject). It would probably be a one time use item.

For dainty mermaid makeup I've done something similar with a piece cut from fishnet stockings. I like the frame to keep things more stable, that's ingenious!

Awesome idea thanks for sharing Anita!

On a side note there is an artist in Australia that makes sculptures out of those bags - she sets them in shape with some sort or resin glue -
amazing what you can do with an orange bag!

I cut apart a mesh laundry bag that ripped, the scale shapes are slightly different but look good too.

I love the tape idea! My mesh is in a small embroidery hoop (made for me by my sweet clown friend), and it is not easy to place on the "roundy" parts of the face. I'll have to make 2 with tape borders, as I think that would make it so much easier to use. Thanks for sharing!

Great idea, and I too thank you for sharing. My kid just finished eating up a bag of clementine that came in a mesh bag. I was just about to throw it out when I read this thread...... who knew???

Now that's what I call recycling/repurposing

the bubbleplasic works fine indeed...just wet the paint and wrap the plastic around a sponge and dip it in!...

Very cool, this same type of netting can also be found on bags of potatos and onions. Very creative & results on the skin look great!

I wonder if liquid starch would work to slightly stiffen them. I use it when I make Halloween ghosts out of gauze. You can mold it and let it dry, I don't think I would make it really stiff, because it could be stracy (sp) .
Neat idea and something I will try, my onions come in that kind of bag.
Thanks
