First Rodeo face painting Gig

Post by shandi on Wed Sep 08, 2010 7:34 pm

Okay yall' doing my first Rodeo gig and was wondering if any of you have done one before and do you use your usual board/designs? I always have a horse and roses on my board but wasn't sure if I should try and throw in a rodeo clown full face, or rodeo themed stuff. Ifin' you have any designs you'd like to share Smile I'm there from 5:00 till 2:00 am on Friday and all day Saturday till 2:00 am. This is a blessing as I still have 300.00 to pay on my Vet bill and am late with my house payment. I am so glad that they wanted me and that they had a spot at a resonable fee. Thank you all for your prayers! BTW Hoggle is healing well.

I need a marketing idea to get the adults in my chair, espcially blinging it for the dance. Anyone got any ideas?

I have noticed many adults feel more comfortable is you place a "Kids' Faces" board as well as an "adults' Faces" board. It makes them feel like there are adult appropriate faces just because you labeled them that way.

Hey Shandi glad to hear Toggle is mending well. As I hope you are too.
I've had gig's where I thought I should come up with new designs to go with & I've printed photo's & added them to my board. The kids still ask for the same. Maybe most of them just feel comfortable getting the 'norm'? Although there is always the chance you'll get an adventurous one.
Like at my regular gig I do on Saturday night I had a girl sit in my chair & I asked her what she would like & she said surprise me. Yay I was so happy to step outside of the box.

Usual display - nothing special. Expect to paint LOTS of unicorns!! LOL

Kids ask for horsey stuff, but you still will get the usual amount of kitties, tigers, spideys and hulks!

Hi, i've done Rodeo gigs before, and the only thing to watch out for is the dust, its gets everywhere!, But the Rodeo crowd is the same as any other crowd, only they have a feeling for fine art, so be prepaired for the normal. but expect horses, doing all kinds of rodeo stunts(barrel racing, calf roping, ect), bulls and so on. I find its very popular to do a horse shoe around the eye, then add a rose to it, just ask the client which way the shoe is to be hung, right side up to show it in action, or upside down to hold in the luck. As for the more adult designs, try an asymetrical eye design, or an one eye sweep,(check in the monthly challenges for ideas) but make sure it will fit under the hat and not inside it, they will not be happy if they have to clean off the inside sweat band. As for the idea of a rodeo clown, i've only one customer who reguests it, and he is three. Good luck and have fun, len
