Twist & Shout Convention?

Post by CreateFaces on Sat Sep 11, 2010 7:40 am

Hi All,

I'm sending my son to Twist & Shout in Burlington, MA in February. He has a knack for twisting, but is still a beginner.

Anyone been to this convention before?

If yes, can you suggest any must-attend classes for a beginner or what you think the highlights of this convention are?

Many thanks!
Cheryl

Sure, but you have to work for his rate Very Happy I supply training, materials and bookings and in exchange he makes $20-$30 hour flat rate depending on the event.

I'm planning on going to this! I haven't registered yet, but will before the early bird deadline passes, haha. I've never been before, but am super excited. I'm trying very hard to stick to my 1 convention/year, alternating fp and balloons...hard when I want to go to all of them!

I have the same rule which is why I'm sending my son only Sad I'm choosing to go to an FP convention, probably the one in Connecticut that Kim Hatch runs.

Maybe we could meet when I drop my son off?

I would love to meet up!

Haha yeah...when I'm at the point of being consistently booked every available weekend and the odd weekday, I'll know I can take more time off to go to different conventions...or some sort of logic like that, anyway.

How old's your son? I'm so stoked to meet the twisting greats!

He'll be 18 in November. He's thrilled that he gets to go alone to something finally.

That's just about the same age I was when I went off by myself for training (not in balloons)! My brother'll be 20 at the end of the month - he twists; might see if he wants to come, too

My father lives in Burlington so John will most likely stay with him, but I want to show up at least once at the convention to check out the vendor room.

Wow, I'm so excited that I'm going to meet a forum member in real life!

...I'm such a geek

Haha so am I. It's all good! And I cannot WAIT for the vendor room!

I did a show in MA straight out of high school, and the family I stayed with still lives in Wellesley so I'm hoping to see them, too...apparently MA is THE meeting spot Razz

Just need to figure out technicalities...like where the hotel is in relation to the airport, and if there's a cheaper one nearby, lol.

Oh, and actually book the thing.

I wish my husband weren't such a private person, or I'd just invite you to stay at my place to save you the cost.

The hotel is about 30 minutes (less depending on traffic) North of the airport. Also, it's located right off the highway exit so you don't have to drive around getting lost on local roads which is good.

As far as cheaper, can't really help you there since I never stay in hotels locally. I did mention the rate to my step mother who said that for the Marriott, that's an excellent rate. She also said bring your bathing suit if you swim because they have a nice pool there.

Yeah, the vendor room (drool) my husband and I are talking about buying a filbert...but shhhh don't tell John he doesn't know.

Oh, no worries - thank you for even considering it; I hadn't expected you to! (Also, I'm planning on being in the jam room as much as possible, so being right there in the hotel will be a good thing!)

(That also nixes the need for a bathing suit, I think, haha. Likely I will either be in class, in the jam or vendor room, and possibly trying to inhale a granola bar/get an hour or two of sleep before doing it all over again Very Happy)

Ok, must add to the list: check out whether there are hotel/airport shuttles and cab companies. No point in renting a car when I'm only planning on being on the road twice.

Ooh, you will love having a floor pump! I don't have a filbert but I do have a floor pump...and now I really want to take it with me, but I won't. Also need to figure out how much of my kit to bring - and I know I'm going home with swag, too!

Cheryl, on second though - what are the names of some local car rental companies there? I'm assuming there's free (?) hotel parking for guests, and according to the website a taxi is $68 (+tip) one way...
