Agreed! I love when parents find it's free & now are resigned to go against their word or let the kids get painted.

Love these!

My favorites are when the parents say "but we have to go to Wal-Mart (grocery, mall, movies) afterwards"

Or the loudly exclaimed "How much?" I charge $3, 5 or 6 depending on the design.....we aren't talking a mortgage payment.
Usually when the parent makes a big deal about price, another parent will pipe in with how reasonable I am, considering they just paid $15 per kid at Disney over the summer. I love those parents.

Avoidance is made really easy when the organisers of an even put you in a separate room from the actual event, down a tiny corridor right down the back....no surprises we had a crappy day! Rolling Eyes

Thanks Tash!

I make sure I'm well placed. No one is aloud to hide me(especially if it's PPF).

Yeah, at the NYSF last year, I had a woman litlerally dragging round a herd of children. She had huge hair, nails and eyelashes, made up to the nine's. I was charging half of what the other painters were (didn't know they were going to be there as they booked after me) and she freaked at the price ($8 for a great full face) She let ONE child out of 5 get painted. The next day, they came by again, the little girl wanted the same design. The lady LOST it, all but beat her, screaming at her that she wasn't wasting good money on that again that she shouldn;t have washed it off in the first place if she just wanted the same thing. I'll never forget her "I AIN'T PAYIN' $8 GOD DAMN DOLLARS FOR NO FACE PAINT FOR YOU TO WASH IT DOWN THE DRAIN!!! I pay $40 for my make up and you don't see ME washinit off every day!"

She did the whole routine in front of my booth. I walked out and politely told her she was welcome to take it down in front of the police the next isle over, they'd love to see her treat the kids that way. Funny, I never saw her again...wonder why? *smirk*

And yes, I agree, it makes me shake my head to see mom and dad with 2 beers each, telling the kids they can't get their face painted because it is too much money and they can't afford it. But then again I've also had a drunk mom leave her daughter in my chair and disappear to the beer tent. LOL It takes all kinds eh?

Sheesh! Some people! (Um, how did the other 4 children act when they found out only one of them was getting painted?)

And ewww, she doesn't wash her makeup off?! Ugh!

So not really avoidance, unless you count avoiding proper makeup...

I'm at WalMart today and wander into their Halloween section, and sure enough, there's a couple looking at the crappy makeup. I stand there for a minute, then figure why not? I ask what kind of face they were going for, tell them I'm a face painter, and that this isn't a very good product to use, but they can find Snazaroo at Michael's or DeSerres, and it's safe for skin etc.

"Oh, it's just for one day" the man says.

"That's true," I say, "and obviously I have no hold on what you do, but I thought I'd let you know that there are safer products that are made for skin out there."

She says, "Well, what's the difference?"

I answer, "Besides it being safer? It also applies more evenly - "

"Oh, I don't care about that. I guess it makes sense for it to be safe if you're using it on kids though."

"...uh...isn't it a good thing if whatever you use is safe for your skin, too?"

"Oh. Well I guess so."

Erm...what?
