Advertising and Promotion on this Forum_UPDATED!!

Hiya Everyone!

I orginally set up this site up as a a resource for myself and other painters without any thought as to how it was all going to be paid for. Well it turns out that it costs money and takes up a lot of time. But I love it!

One of my goals this year is to put a few things in place to generate funds to support this website, pay for prizes ect.. so starting this year, I am going to ask there there is no promotion of any other sites or products without a sponsorship of the site.

I really hope you all understand and that there are no hard feelings. I just need for this site to start supporting itself since to date the funds have all been out of my pocket.

I have no problem if someone is looking for something and you say "I got it at XYX shop."

You will most likely notice a few sponsors here and there as well as myself offering marketing help. Again, this is to pay for the costs of the site and for me to be able to offer prizes for the challenges.

I hope that everyone understands and will support me on this.

No problem Metina. Im sure everyone appreciates all you do. I sure love that you take time to do the challenges. Even if I never win one I gain alot from it. It pushes me to try to improve every single time and in the end that means a lot more.

So you're planning on getting some of the paint supply stores to advertise then? That's cool... if you find anyone with cheap shipping to Canada, let me know

You may want to pm Shannon as I believe she works with a retailer in Canada currently that may be able to help you out. There is also a conference coming up in Canada-check the events section. I am sure there will be lots of retailer there so no shipping required.

You would think with NAFTA and all we wouldn't have this problem. If I am ever in Canada I will be sure to smuggle some stuff in!

If it is made in the US there isn't supposed to be duty... but try telling that to UPS and Canada Customs!!! ARGH!

As it seems we are having members add ads to their signatures, please keep in mind that you are only allowed to have links to your personal websites, face book, twitter ect...for YOUR face painting business. If you want to sell something to members and official ad needs to be purchased for the advertise your business section.

I have kinda let this slide for a while, but see it getting to be a bigger and bigger problem. Everyone received notice from the board and have a weel to comply and then the signature will be deleted as we discover them.

Remember ads in the advertise your business section only help to support this 100% free forum for you!

add a paypal link and except donations toward the run of the forum. I'm on a model horse forum and that's how they did it the first 4 years now they have a small yearly fee and paid members get access to all the topics, non paid only get access to a few..seems to work she's had it for years I've been a member for 7.

That is a cool idea!

I am not trying to raise money for the forum, but rather trying to be fair across the board. I wasn't really monitoring signatures that much, but a few really jumped out at me as advertising. I felt like if I had to ask them to comply, I have to do it across the board.

But, I still would like to give those who don't compete with me directly an opportunity to advertise their wares to the community.
