I suck at butterflies!!!

I love all of the butterflies, each one is so unique! Man, do we ever have some talented painters on here

so glad I found this thread, I do all this detailed cheek art and such but when it comes to butterflies I suck,lol. I don't know how it works out like that, want a mermaid? sure! Princess jasmine and her tiger? No problem! Butterfly? Ugh, er, how about a pretty fairy instead??? lol.
I have a "girly-girly" party coming up so I will be working on butterflies this week, thanks for the pointers and inspiration ya'll!

I love all those butterflies. I love the way you make the wings so detailed. I often use this very simple butterfly. It is the quickest way for me to do a butterfly and the girls love it. Just sponge down the base, line with a 3/4 or 1/2 (depends on the face), doesn't have to be precise, and make some dots and stars. When I have the sponge and brush loaded (I don't use a new sponge or brush for every kid), it is less than 2 minutes including glitter, choosing a gem and all.



Oh, I didn't make this up on my own ofcourse. It is all inspired by the people on this lovely forum. Without you I was still painting my butterfly in 30 minutes with less effect lol.

Just, every thing looks so good...did you use a dragon cake for your practice?

Nancy I actually love the softness of the butterfly...I think I'm going to do this next girl gig instead of black outlines. I bought an angled shader like Lynne Jamison to try this very thing...and I love the jewel you used too.

Just playing around with my new Tag paints....still am not happy with the shape of my butterfly....

The colors are a little muted but here's my go-to butterfly when lots of kids are waiting. Takes so little time to do these by the eyes and have the swirls down the cheek and to the forehead.
