totally forgot, but for those trying to get their cameras to focus up close, try changing the setting to Macro. The symbol for this setting looks like a little tulip flower. It helps the camera to focus close up.
Hope it helps someone!

Really? I did not find this until today??!? (learning so much, so fast, website so large!) I'm really too noob to enter and it may be too late, but the lure of the challenge is almost too much to withstand! I'm blown away by the talent!!!!! At the risk of embaressing myself, I'm going to:
-find my old broken down webcam
-come up with a design based on jewelry I have
-whine about not having those fabulous metallic paints
-stop whining and figure out how to duplicate it as best I can!

First Thanks to Vi! for giving me a practice head.
I'll have to go look at my brush to tell you what kind and size, I just use one size most of the time.
I used Paradise for the whole thing.

Re: Post Submissions Here!

Post by Mehndi Masala on Thu Dec 09, 2010 12:51 pm

Thanks for the votes of confidence rxtorre & Blissfullaffair! I hope I didn't let you guys down!

Made it before the deadline!! Well my dear friends, this WAS a learning experience!
-I learned that my computer hates my old web cam to the point of it threatens complete shutdown and permanent damage if I install it. Not sure why my computer is such a snob, but I can’t afford to be net-less, so photos it is!
-I learned that my chesticular area is not easy for me to paint as it feels like I am painting ‘backwards’ and when I move my right arm my right….umm…things move and it’s hard to get a fine line!
-I learned that next time I do a chest, I will do my HUSBAND before I try my own again or at least use a design with flow and forgiveness.
-I learned that pointy q-tips rule for minor fix ups! I guess I ‘knew’ that after a fashion as I had read it here…but I actually tried it this time!
-I learned to ‘make do’. I needed a consistent teardrop so I carved a sponge. I wanted gold tone so I ran though my henna supplies and found I had some mehron…power. No worries! Add to hair jell and go! I even found a little Paradise black and white! Here is a photo of what I used:

I used my own jewelry as inspiration. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I’m a bit of a jewelry hoarder. (My jewelry box is an actual dresser…I know…I need help.)
Here are two of the 4 pieces that I used as inspiration:

So the big reveal! Here is the step by step process. Although I don’t think it’s near as good as a couple here, I think it was an awesome learning experience and a fun challenge to build up my skills so thanks for putting it on!!!

Kim, Beautiful design! Looks great! Yes, painting on your own chest is a lot different than painting your own face & a lot less forgiving.

Re: Post Submissions Here!

Post by Party Picassos on Thu Dec 09, 2010 5:28 pm

Hi from Chicago,

I have been busy trying to think of a different way to do jewelry,
so I went back a few years....Egyptian!

I used snazaroo yellow, pale yellow, dark brown, red, turquoise, royal blue, red orange, burgundy
and the metallic Gold and Copper, the sparkle yellow,
FX black and wolfe white.

I used no sponges. I used the 3/4 inch flat, assorted regular and one wisp
to do the lines for the dredlocks.

1. I use the big flat brush double loaded with yellow and gold and
make basic shape of the necklaces, the headpiece and eyes

2. I add copper to the necklaces, headpiece, eyes and lips

3. I paint in the hair, line the eyes, block in the all the royal blue parts of the necklaces

4. Then put in the red and light blue. The yellow will be put in next.

5. Outline the jewelry with copper and dark brown.
Use the dotter sponge to create the beaded necklace.

6. Draw in the headpiece design

7.Paint in the highlights and shadows. I darken or lighten my colors.

8. Paint in the headpiece with matching colors. Use the wisp brush to create the lines in the hair

9. Put the shadows and highlights in the head piece using copper, dark brown, black and white

10. ALL DONE! Now I am going to HATE to wash the mannequin clean!

Very Happy

Or put the screen in the mirror and aim the lens at your chest. Most cameras focus automatically if you point it and push the button down half way, then push it down all the way to actually take the shot.

Not entering just sharing........... these were my 1 and only attempt at doing jewelry back in April. Definitely not a strong point for me especially since I struggle with symmetry so much.
