New Menu Sign

Post by AngieAnders on Sun Nov 21, 2010 3:01 pm

I got to use my new menu board this weekend and I love it! I ordered a "lawn sign" from Vistaprint and uploaded a graphic collage of my pictures that I wanted on it. It's not quite as versatile as what I was using as far as being able to change out pictures, but I hardly ever changed them out anyway, and this was inexpensive enough that I can order a new one when I want to make a lot of changes. I'm thinking about ordering different "themed" menus for princess parties, superheroes, etc. It is SUPER light weight, water proof, and perfect for a folding easel. Very Happy

I ordered two - one with a "full menu" and one with a "quick menu" for parties with too many kids to paint.

Those are awesome! How much did they cost, if you don't mind me asking? How do you get your pics in the frames w/ the labels? Is it a particular program? I have gimp, but other than cropping & basic resizing I'm clueless on how to use it. I wish I knew compter stuff as well as I could paint Very Happy

Angie,
You get a "3 snaps in a "Z" formation" too!~
LOVE IT!!!
It looks like it's printed on coroplast (corrugated cardboard), is it?
SO do you hook it together or does it come that way?

the lawn signs are corrugated plastic... I have a little one that says "face painting and balloons this way" to stick in the grass at festivals. Looks good!

These boards look awesome. Are they used separately for certain type of events?

Re: New Menu Sign

Post by AngieAnders on Sun Nov 21, 2010 10:21 pm

Thanks everyone! I love them! Here's what I did:

First I took each photo I wanted to use, put it in a "snapshot" frame, and added the title at the bottom. I did this with Adobe Photoshop Elements. I just purchased the Elements 8 and downloaded it on-line, and I'm pretty happy with it. Easy to use, and the older version is much cheaper than the latest version, and is just as good according to the reviews.

Then I used Microsoft Publisher to create a sign and add each finished snapshot photo. Publisher is super easy to use, and it's drag-and-drop so I was able to size the pictures and place them where I wanted. Then I saved the whole finished sign as one jpg file. (This could have been done with Elements, but I used Publisher just because it's more user-friendly for me.)

Then I went to Vistaprint and chose the larger lawn sign, and the "upload your own design" option. I uploaded the finished piece that I had made in Publisher. (Yes, they do charge for each uploaded photo, so you want to create the sign and add all the photos, and then save it as one file so you can upload ONE photo of the completed design.) Vistaprint runs sales all the time, so you can usually get the large sign at a reduced price like $9 plus shipping or something.

I did this twice, since I ordered two signs - one for full menu and one for quick parties. (I believe I paid less than $30 for both signs and shipping.) The two signs are not used together, I either take one of them or the other, depending on the party. I display them on a portable easel that I have. They are indeed made of corrugated plastic - very light weight. The signs from Vistaprint are in landscape format, so I had to turn my file sideways so that it would fit correctly.

Hope this helps! I am going to see how well they hold up, and plan to order more for themed parties once I actually collect enough photos of superheroes or any other single theme to make a board for it. Ugh, I'm terrible about taking pictures of designs on the job!

Your signs look GREAT! I think I'll be looking into this myself soon. I could use 2 signs back-to-back (like a sandwich board) with faces on one, balloons on the other for my "new" gig on weekends.

you can do the same thing with vistaprint's banners... that's what I do... put grommets in the corners from Michael's and hang them up. All the signs from there look so professional.
