Those free websites are great. If you get to the point that you want to pay for your own web domain, my favorite is webstarts.com. They now offer a a free shopping cart as well as e-mail marketing, slide shows, music, and videos. The feature I enjoy the most is the drag and drop editing as well as the ability to create layers on your page. It has been the easiest for me to edit out of Wix and the other sites that I have used. I created four free websites with four free web builders before I decided to go with webstarts. They were the most user friendly by far for me.

mine is on webs.com it is also free ... they have templates you can use, but I edit my own page using NVu then upload the html

If you've never made a website before though, you'll probably want to use a template for now.

I use homestead.com and love it. The design program is very easy to use, and the domain and hosting is about $9 per month.

I tried Wix and I actually found it kind of complicated. (And I've built several websites over the years from scratch.) I guess I'm not much for templates. It does have some really awesome templates though, and I have seen some really fantastic Wix sites. All I wanted was a really basic site, and I knew that I could build that myself.

So I paid about $42 for a year of hosting and that included registering the domain name, through iPage.com. I've been quite happy with them, and their hosting includes a lot of features. (Most of which I haven't used yet, but it's good to know they are there.)

I find KompoZer to be a really easy-to-use html editor, and it's free. Lots of times I type in my own html but it's nice not to have to.

I had Webs to start with. They were ok but I was not happy with their editing or their design options. I actually had a few problems with them I now have weebly and I love them. I bought a domain from Go Daddy on sale for like 11 total so it stayed with me through the switch

I'm still fully free with wix.com. I love their templates, but have not figured out how to add more pages(or if I can with their free service). So, it's doing it's job, bringing me traffic & clients & looks completely awesome... but I wish I could do more.
I'm completely not computer knowladgable & barely know what html is, etc. Very Happy

I had a free geocities site for many years. I decided to go with ipage and register a proper domain name. So far it has been good.
