Step by Step Dragon Tattoo

Post by Psalmbook on Fri Dec 10, 2010 11:35 am

I had a request to do one of these from the Dragon Thread. I'm not able to do video, but I'll do my best w/ pics. Enjoy!

You can do this dragon using any artycake or rainbow cake you can imagine. It is a boy favorite for me & works great for those parties where none of the boys want their faces painted. I do it on the upper arm like a tattoo or the lower arm. You can also add flames or lightning coming from it's mouth. I used a home made ocean rainbow cake. I'll use anything from a 1" flat brush to a 1/2" flatbrush depending on the childs age.

Starting at the nose of the dragon paint several ridges as you move the brush to the back of the head. Turn the brush to make the spike.

Make a 2nd spike

Make a backwards "C" for the lower jaw

Starting at the back of the jaw, below the spikes, make the curling body of the dragon. Make the pointed tail.

Using the flat brush, add spikes

Outline & do details in black with a small round brush

Highlight in white, add teeth & the eye with a small round brush. Add flames if you want(I forgot them).
Since it's Christmas I finished it off w/ a Santa hat Very Happy

I get bored easily & will use different splits for this dragon. I used a home made ocean cake that I made with leftover paints... I'm not sure what's in it.
Thanks all! This is the #1 request for an arm design from the boys. I've used a rose cake once for a girl & put little roses & leaves around it & it was stunning. i want to get Rebecca's now cake & give it a try Very Happy
Your right, it looks very Grinch like!
