Hi, new from Washington

Post by Magical Mehendi on Wed Dec 29, 2010 7:55 am

Hello,
A few months ago I attended (kind of) the Living Canvas convention, as a vendor (henna supplies) and while I was there I bought my first face paints. I didn't make it to any classes, or even attempt to paint anything while there. In retrospect, not smart...lol. I didn't think I was too interested in face painting. But once home I tried out the Wolfe palette and DFX palettes I had purchased and became instantly addicted.
I have been doing henna art for a decade and in Washington it can be more of a seasonal job. I used to spend time in the winter (my down season) painting, but I haven't painted for 2 or 3 winters. So the face painting is really rejuvenating me and making me excited to paint. Now I need willing victims!
In just a few months I have purchased enough brushes and paints (now have the Paradise palettes, several split cakes) to really have some fun! I have even taken the plunge and made split cakes. A friend and I each wanted a metallic white, and a metallic gold, so we bought each and turned them into split cakes for each of us. Then I was feeling even braver and took the DFX 6 color palette and turned them into various split cakes to get more mileage out of them. That was fun.
I just ordered a practice head this week because my children (and I gather from reading the forum ... this happens often) have begun to hide when I want a model to practice on. So as long as the practice head doesn't talk back... Wink

This forum is fantastic! So much info and so many great pictures. I am excited to get to know the artists here.

Welcome Smile

I think I met you briefly at Living Canvas as I stopped by the henna booth but since I'm a face painting newbie I'm trying to stay focused for now.... but henna looks so cool -- (especially when done by folks who know what they are doing!)

I'm thrilled to have another henna maven on the forum!

Michelle! I remember you!
Thanks for the complements.
I came home from Living Canvas and once I tried the paints became addicted. I think maybe I should have gone to a class or three. Will you be there next year too?

Hi Justine -- it is too early for me to decide whether I'll go back to Living Canvas... as of now I'm going to Learn and Play in a couple of weeks (also in San Jose) and the Las Vegas convention around the end of February Smile

Marcela, who wasn't at Living Canvas will be teaching at Learn and Play as well as Lilly Walters (and Brian Wolfe and Pashur who I've already taken classes with), and there are many fantastic instructors who will be teaching at the Vegas convention!

Hi Michelle,
My sister will be teaching henna again, at Learn and Play, but I decided not to attend this time because we have a henna cruise/conference 2 weeks later...and it just wasn't feasible. I saw all the great instructors I will be missing tho Sad
Hopefully things will all fall together and we will see you in Aug. at LC. If nothing else, pop by and we can do dinner?
