Sudden, Severe LATEX allergy : (

Post by TheSparklingLady on Sat Jan 08, 2011 6:56 am

Oh Noooooo! All My lovely balloons! I was getting SO into it! All that color and light!! I had plans to build some huge designs: I am SO mad and frustrated! Honestly!

Of course, 2010 was a tough year for me: My dear brother died ... this summer. My dog JUST died a week before Christmas (4 year old blonde cocker named Rasbury Park) and now I can't do balloons? Come ON!!! Sad

Here is my balloon page just before I take it down, as a little tribute to my wonderful balloons:

I stayed off line but I have missed you all SO much ... thank goodness I can still face paint! Smile
Thanks for being a support through thick and thin my fellow artists. I love you all ...

PS
That Carmen Miranda doll makes a GREAT hula dancer: She rocks (I mean she REALLY rocks!). Just make her a grass skirt and add a tiny flower lei!).

I'm so sorry to hear that!! I too would be very upset if I couldn't twist anymore... it's a real joy for me.

I feel for your many losses this year and I know how soothing art can be to the heart and mind when either are troubled. I'm sorry that this one was taken from you! I'm not a balloon twister even a little bit, but I can't imagine someone taking my painting faces or hennaing brides away!!!
But perhaps this will give you even more time to create more face paint designs?
I wish there was an icon for big hugs in your direction!

So sorry for ALL of your losses. Had my share of those this past year...having a creative outlet really helps. You know what they say...when one door closes, another one opens...Look for the other door...this may be just a new beginning... I love you

So sorry to hear about your brother and your puppy too. My heart goes out to you...I hate to hear that you have to stop twisting as well. Maybe you could make an instructional booklet to sell. I love your princess balloons. They are so cute. I do hope that you find lots of joy and luck in face painting!

AWe...what a beautiful doggy. I am so sorry for you losses. I cannot imagine losing a sibling. But, I have lost a beloved doggie. The pain is almost inbearable.
And now...latex allergies. Is there any way at all to get around this?
Hopefully 2011 is a more prosperous and happy year for you.

Dear Sparkling Lady,

There is nothing we can really say or do aside from to let you know we are all sorry, send you our love and support. Times like these words are all we have- but hopefully the intent behind them is more powerful than the words alone.

Blessings to you for the new year in all the ways you will heal.

(((HUGS))) I'm also sorry about your brother (how hard that must have been!) and your puppy (beautiful dog, looks so sweet). And now balloons?? Your balloon creatures are just fabulous, so it's obvious to me that you are skilled and talented with them. I'm so sad that you have developed an allergy to latex. Sad Was it a sudden thing?

unfortunately, latex allergies are NOT something you can work around considering she said "severe" ... I'm presuming severe means that it is affecting her breathing with the powder off the balloons in the air and not just an irritation on her skin.

I know a few people whose latex allergies are mild skin irritations and they can get away with twisting with gloves on, but more severe latex allergies can cause breathing constriction and that's just not cool.

I'm so sorry. That really stinks. I can relate. 2010 was full of loss for me too (father-in-law, mother-in-law, and my cat) but then I GAINED face painting. I can not imagine LOOSING an artistic expression. Oh, I'm so sad for you.

Again, thanks to everyone for your comforting words and support!
To clarify:
I had a severe allergic reaction to the proteins in rubber plant sap from pinching off a small branch. My fingers swelled to twice their normal size, turned red and a bluish black. Scared the @$ % out of me. My lips swelled up like little canoes also. Perry is right: a severe reaction means quit while you are ahead. I am highly allergic to penicillin and other drugs so I know to take any allergy warning seriously.
Physically, all is back to normal now. Never doubt that your sweet support is needed; Face Paint portal members rock!

Aweeeee sorry about the allergy Eve, but glad to know that you are ok.

Hopefully this will brighten your day. Angel as you know has taken up twisting and completed her first gig......she was awesomeeeee. She was able to offer 5 different designs, and the kids loved her.
