looking for a good training VIDEO!

Post by AllieDawn on Wed Jan 26, 2011 4:36 pm

Any suggestions?? Not a "beginner" video, but one that will have some good tips/techniques in it, and of course some nice face designs.

If you have any for sale, please let me know! I'll post this in the "trade/sell" section too. Smile

First, I would like to say that I had never read your signature until now and I love it. Second, are you to a point in your painting where you can study a photo and break it down to be able to do it? If you are, just studying photos will get you a lot further that any video. Videos will show you a select few designs, but studying photos is an endless education.

Thank you! I love you
It's weird, I've been a painter for almost 15 years, but faces are a whole different thing! apparently.

I honestly haven't come across any educational information better than this forum. Have you researched all the step by steps from previous challenges?

When I first started painting, Jinny - Make-up Artist was the DVD that most helped me learn to double load and brush and sponge, and application technique. I have other DVDs by Mark Reid and Caron Turman but Jinny's Volume 2 DVD was the ground-breaker for me. Link to purchase below.

Videos are helpful. And will help you, in my opinion way more than still shots and You Tube. Those are good add ons to help you use and expand your idea base for designs (the goal is to come up with your own art and use what those who produce share).

There are many good resources the older videos like Oliver and Jinny show more abstract works than what many face painters like to start with. The new books and newsletters show the method that Wolfe FX and Face Art company started with four shots of a breakdown and then the completed face. All usable.

I recommend Mark Reid's "Get On Your Mark". He shows line work, talks about blending and gives you designs and tips. The best video on the market today for learning to face paint. And you can watch it over and over to really master, not just learn the basics. A good foundation is what will help you master face art. Then add in all the other resources. And you will be two steps ahead of anyone just learning from static pictures and quick clips.
