Other Forums

Post by wmeventservices on Mon Feb 07, 2011 2:00 pm

Ok, so this year I wanted to try to network outside of our group as well as the networking I do here. I've tried to participate, but I feel like I don't fit in with the etiquette at the other forums. I just got a lengthy e-mail explaining to me that simple "great jobs" are not acceptable responses and if I don't have more useful information then I shouldn't participate. On another one, I shared my rose body painting and was told that I broke their PG-13 standards, but I thought that the typical PG-13 standards were undies and pasties, which is what I used. I'm not angry, but just a bit boggled. I understand their reasoning for the rules, I just wish that all the forums could be as easy to navigate as this one. I'm gonna keep trying. I hope it gets better. I know they are not trying to be mean to me, but when I've only posted 4 times anywhere but here and two of those posted were reprimanded, it's a bit discouraging. Thanks for just letting me vent a little guys. It's always nice to get things off my chest.

Pooh- that does stink.

I've started trimming my online forum time down to just my few favorites so that I can keep myself sane!

Facebook is where I network aLOT though Smile

Here & FB are it. I don't have time for any more. I never create a post & only answer occasionally the q's on other forums. I find that some are just too.....

On here, building relationships seems so easy. I read the posts to get to know people and they read mine to get to know me. How are you guys using Facebook to build relationships and network? It seems like a lot of people and nothing to differentiate them, but photos. I'm very interested in using it, just curious as to what has worked for you guys.

I'm friends w/ a lot of face painters on there & I post pics regularly. I post a lot to keep my clients on there aware of me(if they see my stuff regularly they don't forget me & think to hire me:-). But, it's also gotten others attention & helped me some. Most are people I know from here.

Sorry you are having such negative responses from the other forums.
I always loved it on here until lately. Someone made me upset with a post and I kinda went a little out of character. Now they won;t drop it.
I just wish that on this forum there was more free speech without being chewed out and belittled.
Other then that I love everyone here...okay mostly everyone on here.
You guys have been so informative and helpful.
So...I never feel the need to go to any other forums.

I find it easiest to completely skip over certain peoples postings entirely whether they be the one starting the thread or simply commenting on it. No matter what forum you go to you always have the alpha personalities with the bow before me attitudes. Although, the nice people seem to be the majority in each setting.

I'm on a couple forums and I've found many nice people and some you just have to pray for, agree with to hush them up or just completely avoid. I have to say the thing that upsets me most it the strong sense of paranoia that many people on the forums seem to have. It seems as if so many people think someones out to get them somehow....it blows my mind!

Whitney that's sad that you've had such a bad start elsewhere. Vent away here I'm a good listener & always feel if I have something positive & supportive to contribute I will. I don't belong to any other forum, actually this is the first one I found & I'm here to stay. There is so much that I love about this forum most of all the encouragement & support in what brings us all together our shared passion to FP.

I think when you're on a large forum with lots of people & personalities your going to encounter issues. It's unavoidable. My advice, get the most out of it, choose to read what's relevant to you & if you don't like something, don't read it. I'll participate in a good discussion, but if people start attacking each others character, I'm pretty much done with the thread.
I love this place & all the personalities on here. Many offer such good insight & inspiring work. I also prefer the format to the google groups(I find these hard to navigate & have yet to figure out how to post pics).

This forum just feels like HOME. I am on a few others, but have posted under a dozen times total, I just don't feel as comfy with their vibe as I do here. This generally IS the friendliest forum (IMO only!) and also one of the most informative. YEA!

I don't think I will be searching out any of the other forums then. I am really uncomfortable with confrontations. Shoot, I nearly removed myself from this forum when all the drama creeped in last month! (glad I stayed though Very Happy )

Just out of curiosity, what are the rules for posting body paints then?

I've looked around at other forums a little, but this was the first one I found really and it's sooooo chock full of awesome people and ever evolving and adding of info that every question I have asked is answered here! And if I keep up with the portal, often things I never thought to ask come up and I get information and learn almost daily! I can't say I have any urge to venture farther!!

I'm yet to use Facebook as a true networking tool....but I do for hennna....and I *HAVE* started to have feedback from facepainters so I guess I'm 'going there' slowly.

if you can't post a simple "good job" wtf? Thats nutso. I'd say you don't need a group like that. What if you give the "wrong" tips or advice?" I'd be afraid to post anything.

I'm glad you stayed too! My tactic is to just stay out of the drama and continue to enjoy the rest. Don't even read it if it bothers you!

I'm not sure if we even have any rules on here(I'd PM and ask Metina).
Some of the other forums(and I know the Snaz Competition) it must be PG. No front shots that don't have bikini/bra/panties. Back shots are ok, the "backside" needs undies.

Yeah, in my experience the majority of PG ratings only require pasties and underwear. Snaz does require bikini top which is why I violated their standards.

I would love to read other forums (minus the negativity), but hate the formatting of yahoo groups, cumbersom and awkward. Plus, if you're on a mailing list, nobody seems to delete the post their replying to and it gets so very messy. Internet neat-freak anyone? hah.
