I love starblends and powders, I use them a lot. Here are some examples... keep in mind that some are from when I started painting so the quality isn't there but you get the point.

LacySummer & Lauri I purchased my mica shimmers at Amerikan Body Art
http://www.amerikanbodyart.com/Mica-Shimmer-Powders-Mineral-Eyeshadow.html (I personally ordered via wholesale due to the size of my order for my business)
I love the gold and the silver ... (sorry no pics of faces I've done using those)
Here are some pics where I used mica shimmers:

On the topic of shimmer mica powders, Check out this old thread: http://www.facepaintforum.com/t3483-mini-jam-face-paint-powders?highlight=mini+jam
There is a link to the coastal scents website (at least I think there's a link-- if not just search the name) and you can buy shimmer mica powders for $1! Just browse in the "makeup ingredients" category. Tons of colors, you can use them loose like the American Body art stuff or you can press it so it's like a shimmery starblend, and they are only $1!!!

I like the pigment and sparkle of this eyeshadow, I would like to find something like this in a larger amount then the tiny bits here

Any ideas of a product like this?
Would this be worth adding to a kit?

I have one of these, and while the pigments are nice, they are still not as much pigment as lumieres or the Kryolan powders.

I love my Ben nye Lumieres and my Kryolan interferenze for when i want a shimmery look over a metallic look. I love how pigmented they are. I only use my lumieres dry..... the interferenze either or.

I have a party later this afternoon if I have a chance to use them and get some pics I will. If not I will try to demo some of the colors on my arm

Painted at my daughter's cheer event....helped them raise money for the team...these are just a few of the faces I painted there (btw it was a mardi gras cheer competition). Some (most) I used the mica shimmers for the base and detailed w/black & white from wolfe bros.
sorry for the quality of the pics....I forgot my camera and so I took pics with my phone.
Everyone was pleased cheers .... got asked to do other cheer events from competing teams (w/pay)....so I think I'll be making money at these events that I'm at anyway (usually spending money) Woo-Hoo!!!!!
OH Lauri.....all are done in under 5 minutes. I didn't (& usually don't) have any pics to choose from (it was one flat rate of $5 per face (nice low price) and had all the young girls lining up). Quick, quick, quick! Very Happy
Anyway, here are some pics.

Sorry if these pictures are wack - I am still getting the knack of posting photos. These were all done with lumieres and or starblend. I currently only have a couple of colors, as you may guess, lol. Enjoy. Smile

Even if the starbelends should get on the clothing it wouldn't be much and it dusts right off by shaking the fabric.....I really like them, I'm not in love with them, but there's certainly nothing wrong with them.

I am looking for something that will show up great on dark skin, as a lot of people in my area are from Hispanic and Haitian descent, and it is very difficult to get some colors to show up on darker skin. Would those of you who use starblends and shimmer powders say that they show up better or worse than regular paint on dark skin?

The lighter colors would probably work, and I have had a lot of success with the metallics from the lumieres. We have a lot of fair skin up here in Washington though Smile

I used my starblends for the first time today and I must say - I loved them!

I'd only ordered red, white and yellow but am going to order pink, orange and black next - they cover really well, you can paint over them and the little kids don't flinch at all when they're applied - no cold/wet sensation. Love it!

Here are a few designs I did today with them: (long line-up, all designs done in 2mins or under)

Spiderman (black lines tag, red starblends)

Tiger (red, yellow, white all starblends, black lines and fangs not)

Leopard (yellow and white starblend)

Here's a vampire (white and red starblends)

So as not to make this too picture heavy, I'll also just say that I used the red starblends for the ladybug base and the white starblends for the base for the zebra, as the area around the nose and eyes for the butterflies (and blended in snaz/tag colours on the outside) and it worked well for all!

SO quick and easy to use (with a smoothie) Smile

(Oops! On reviewing the pic's I noticed the places I missed on the leopard...ah well, pictures are good for that Smile)

Love those Lori! Love the paws too...the kids love them and I don't put them on often. I'm liking the idea of starblends combined with one-stroke it's kind of like Lumieres for boys. Smile I've got them in my cart, just got to pull the trigger. Thanks for sharing your designs painters, makes me feel better about it.

Magic carpet is red Starblend w/light stencils in FAB glitter gold... Iago is Tag split cakes, kryolan blue, wolfe black...

This is the first time trying these designs - Iago is inspired by Daizy.

(My first time posting paintings)

ETA - sorry so big! posting from facebook - also, this was at the *end* of the run-thru - so approximately 4 hours after application w/much sweating, dancing, singing and costume changing...

So, are Starblends basically like a eyeshadow with heavy pigment? Could you use a bright gold eyeshadow for example as a base for eye designs? I have been looking at these, but not sure what exactly they are. We get super hot here in the summer, so I am definitely intrigued, I just can't figure out what they ARE lol

I personally don't love them. I have three. Gray, white and red. I got the gray to do vampires and "dead" faces without having to coat a boy's face in paint. I hate the way it covers. It's blotchy and uneven EVERY TIME. And god help you if the kid has the slightest bit of moisture on their face. Those spots will be hella dark while the rest is light and ... well... powdery. The ONLY one I get any use out of is the white, I use it for spiderman eyes because boys don't like the cold and wet on their eyes.

I would describe them as highly pigmented eye shadows. More so, than your average eyeshadow, IMO. Price wise, compared to regular eyeshadow, I think starblends are cheaper in the long run, especially if you pick colors you will use a lot of, like orange, white, black, pink, yellow, red, green, purple. I'm on the MS Gulf Coast, so yes there's heat and humidity, and my starblends and lumiere's work great.

Often I find if you take the handle of your smoothie blender/lollipop and lightly scratch the surface of the Starblend., coverage is faster and better coverage. Can't imagine working a beach area with out them for full face coverage on little guys. All our painters carry red, white, black, orange and a set of Lumineers for sparkle on girl designs. Black and white for puppy dogs and skulls, red for spiderman, orange for tigers, etc. They are a long time staple for painters in heat with smaller kids especially. sunny

On humid days, first thing I do is hand the kid a dry tissue and ask them to "wipe off your old face for me, so I can paint on the new", they usually laugh and wipe away for me. that takes away some of the moisture. there's tradeoffs with any paint. with starblends, like Melody mentioned, there might be streaks if the skin is damp. with regular face paint, you'll get a paint run/melt there if the face is damp. so, I try and get them dried off, paint quick, up and out.
