Private Board?

Hey Metina, thanks for the great looking forum! I love my email lists but this looks fun too. Question: Is this forum private? I noticed that the UK forum you modeled this one after will not let non-members view the posts (which I think is a good idea). I logged out here and I was still able to see everything. Just checking, because there are certain topics (ranting about bad days, problems, etc) that other painters can relate to, but aren't good PR for potential clients to be reading about.

I'll have to think about this one. I purposely set it up this way so that painters considering joining could get a preview, but I can see your point as well.

I would hope that no one would post anything too imflamatory on here as I do want to keep it clean.

But actually the UK one is set up exactly the same(www.facepaintingchat.co.uk). You can read everything without logging in, you just cannot reply. Unless you are refering to another board.

Anyone care to weigh in on this one?

Oh, you're right, I can see the posts over there. Strange! I checked it the other day and it said I was not a member and could not view posts.

Okay yeah, I can see your point - people will want a preview when deciding to sign up. Maybe after your membership is well established you could go private if desired.

Oh, I figured it out. Some of their threads are open to the public and others are private. (Not a bad solution!) I must have clicked on a private one when I was checking it out.

Oh yes you are right. I can make some private now that I think about it. Maybe I will make "Where's the Beef" private.

Doh...I just read this...after making a post specifically about that in the 'Where's the Beef' Forum.

It was my one issue about advertising this site on my website. I really do not want the general public reading some of this stuff. It's all about the image...

I agree that certain bits definitely need to be private to painters or at least registered members looking to become painters.

The "Where is the Beef" area is now private. Only MEMBERS will even see that it exists. Hope this helps.

Because I could see all the different topics discussed, this was the main reason why I joined. I love to see all the "venting and horror" post because Im sure I will have the same issues some day. Im sure Metina has the ability to delete any comment she thinks is unfit for the forum.

I think you also can't see members albums if you are not signed in or a member there. I am.
