Craft paint face painter called me today

Post by barbb919 on Fri Feb 18, 2011 1:23 pm

I just had a girl call me today about my face painting business she found me on craigs list..at least people are checking it out.

Well she asked me if I could use another face painter and that she had painted 5 years and this was a few years back..
I told her I did the painting my self and I did mostly small restraunts and birthday parties and a few festivals..nothing major just so she would see that I didn't need help.; I asked her what kind of paints she used and she told me non toxic acrylic paint.
I then told here that I would not ever use that kind of paint that it was not intended for the skin..and that I only use fda approved paint and Im fully insured..I also told her she could get into trouble for using that on kids..I then told her I would not use someone who used that kind of paint

she lives about 30 miles from me so I told her if this was something she would like to do again that she should do her home work on the types of paint and supplies she should use...
I hope that if she does start this, she atleast uses the right stuff..
I think I may of come off to abrupt but thats they way I feel..I think maybe she was a little put off but oh wel

You know it scares me when my daughter is with a friend;s family or at a birthday party. I am always so scared that someone is going to paint her face with that crap. It makes me so mad that people actually think they can use paint that is intended for crafts on my daughter's delicate skin.
Children are so sensitive and I would hate to see someone react really bad to that stuff.

I think you did the best thing by trying to educate her on the safety of paints. Good for you.

My son is pretty vocal(the whole autism spectrum thing can be a plus here). He once loudly told a lady, "That paints not right & it's not safe." HaHa... to be put in your place by a kid!

If she contacted you it sounds like she might be open to learning more.
I have had this happen before - not by a craft paint using facepainting but by a craft painter that wanted to become a face painter. I inundated her with links... links to product shops, links to Youtube videos and links to the FAQ's on the snaz site. I think it all got too much for her as I didn't hear from her after the first couple of times.
I love it when you are working PPF or a party/festival and some lady comes up behind you and says' oh I used to do facepainting/am a face painter...... what is all that stuff?" looking at my paints...... I LOVE to educate these people!
Well done Barb, it's hard to judge when you are politely educating people or when you are coming off snippy with them.
Did you offer to guide her in the right direction? or just tell her to 'do her homework'?...... we can't hold everyones hand and guide them, but if they are close to you and you MAY have a need for them in the future it may be in your best interest to help.
Otherwise - she is lucky you took the time to chat with her.

Yeah Tash I should of not be so abrupt. but I just had to say what we have all been saying about using that kind of paint..she had no clue..and didn't know the kind of paints we used..I don't know this person or they type of work that she does.. Suzy sparkles has been kind enough to step up and tell me If i had a job to big she could help me out..and Ive seen her work..
I would not want some one to help not knowing their work only to say they have done it before...I hope I did not offend this lady to much..and now I hope she does some looking into the products we use when and if she decides to face paint again..

I'm glad to hear that you helped educate her on the paints. I wasn't so bold at the past 4th of July fest. There was a group of "face painters" two booths down from me, charging $1 for cheek art. We knew them from being school mom's and my little girl wanted to go give them a shot. When she came back to be, she said mommy it burns! They were using paint pens! The kind you use on a piece of metal or wood! I didn't say anything and have regretted it since. When the lady calls me about that fest again, I am going to tell her to beware of letting people come that don't use safe paint. pale
