Some pictures at last! And a video...

Post by Captain-Savvy on Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:40 pm

It took me a while to get some up ... because when it comes to face painting and make up I'm very shy about sharing my work online (odd for someone with an online art gallery, yes? ) I'm especially happy with the tiger, which I did tonight. My initial tiger design was a lot more plain and not as pretty... any comments and advice will be appreciated =)

And even though the final product isn't so great, here's a video I made, doing tiger make up on myself with Ben Nye Creme Makeup XD This design is way more complicated than anything I'd try to paint on a kid Razz

Fun and entertaining video Savvy! I love how you sped it up to make things go faster. Your blending is very nice and smooth.

Pointers: Use your pinkie as a "kickstand". Place it on your face to steady your hand as you paint. It takes a little practice but you won't believe how much easier it will be, and how great your linework will look.

For tigers, a good rule of thumb is to always have the stripes and other markings pointing towards a central focal point (a spot between the eyes). So I'd perhaps have the forehead stripes starting near the center between the brows, and moving up and away. Start the stripes lightly with a sharp edge, press harder in the middle to make the line thicker, and then lift the brush at the end to make another sharp point. Do it all in one confident stroke. You can practice this technique on your arms over and over, and soon it will be second nature.

I would suggest switching to Snazaroo face paints as you are honing your skills. The paint you were using looked great, but powdering and worrying about smudges won't be necessary with Snaz, which dries to a nice dry finish.

Thanks for sharing this Savvy! I loved watching it! I need to get off my rear and do a video one of these days. Shocked

Wonderful! You have some great techniques here. I love the way you extended the white down on the chin. Nice effect. I would highly suggest you get your hands on a #4 round sable for the tiger stripes. You will be amazed at the difference in your stripes.

For all us techno-newbies, after you have the video on your camera, how do you go about getting the music on and then on youtube. Step by step please(if you don't mind). I would love to do a few to promote the forum, but haven't a clue where to start!

ben nye cream stuff is generally clown makeup and not just for face painting... it takes a lot longer to apply and most parents wouldnt' have a clue how to remove it since you need to use baby oil or cold cream to cut through it.

You'll find it all a lot easier with snazaroo or the like.

Thanks everyone! Smile

lol I would never use my Ben Nye for face painting! This video was made only for my own amusement, and only 'make up' on myself- not intended as a face painting tutorial. I bought the Ben Nye while I was interested in the CATS musical, and was using it to try designs from those characters strictly on myself (and for Halloween. Wink ) I ONLY use Snazaroo for Face Painting events! Thank you though!

I tried to improve on my tiger stripes in the picture I put in my gallery. After seeing everyone's tigers here I realized that the way I was doing it was way too complicated... so hopefully the picture is better than the one in the video...

Metina: When I upload a video from my camera I edit it in Windows Movie Maker (it came with my computer). I 'import' the file and just drag and drop it onto the 'time line', then do the same with music. You can drag in the edges of the music and video files to crop them or make thme shorter. Under 'Effects' there are things like speeding up, slowing down, different zooms, etc. Once its saved I 'Publish' it, which compresses it into a file that's compatible with Youtube for uploading. Smile Hope this helps!
