Praying for all Our New Zealand Peeps

Post by Psalmbook on Mon Feb 21, 2011 9:58 pm

I just got home & saw on the news that there was a big eathquake in New Zealand. I'm praying all our FPF peeps & their families are ok.

I just came to the breakroom to post something similar Linda.

The earthquake has been devastating. ((hugs love and prayers)) to everyone from NZ or to those with loved ones in NZ.

Ditto. NZ really helped Australia with the recent floods. Hopefully we can return the favour somehow.

Re: Praying for all Our New Zealand Peeps

As several of you know. My Aunt, who I am very close to, lives in New Zealand on the south island about an hour outside of Christchurch. We finally got a response from her early this morning.

"I am ok...well physically anyway. I am not coping to well otherwise. The power came on 15mins ago thank god as I haven't been able to check out the damage around Christchurch on the TV or the 'net. I was actually driving in the city when it happened. I had no control over the car, I did not know why the car was behaving the way it was even with my foot on the brake. The car just kept on moving sideways towards the kerb and a tall brick wall. When the activity stopped I got out of the car and I just screamed. A man and a woman in the car behind me, and had also stopped, came over and comforted me. I then noticed the the wide cracks in the road...about 12in in width. It went right under my car and way down the road. Across the road is our large central city park, a tree, that must have been at least 100yrs old fell over before my eyes. Its roots exposed to the world. The drive home was just awful. Everywhere, I saw buildings partially and full demolished. The streets were awash with water from burst pipes. People were standing in the streets looking dazed & wondering what to do. There was another couple of tremors that made the traffic stop. All I wanted was to get home.

When I finally got into my street I was prevented from getting to my house by a huge hole in the middle of the road, water prevented it being exposed but a lady popped out of nowhere and said not to proceed as I might fall into the hole - plus the rest of the road was soft and squishy. Its the first time I have driven on a footpath. Relief flooded over me when I checked the structure of house. Its a bit of a mess inside though. I have much to be grateful for not so for the 65 that have died so far.

Although it was a 6.3 it was shallower and closer to the central city - it caused more damage that the 7.1 in September. It is going to take a long time for us to recover.

I am seriously considering getting in my car tomorrow and driving up to the north island. I have had enough. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Thanks for thinking of me"

Cheers
Samantha

They are still pulling people out now. Tv's running 24 hour news, it looks terrible. They expect the trapped people to be able to survive up to three days, they have been buried for 24 hours..... I can't even imagine what they are going through. Trapped people are calling the TV stations to try and find out when/if help is coming...... it's breaking my heart, one building was a creche/childcare and medical center that completely collapsed.

This is absolutely devastating! Christchurch is such a beautiful place and my heart goes out to everyone affected. Let's hope that everyone trapped can be found alive.

My prayers are for NZ too! A very good friend of mine is from Christchurch. His family is still there. I'm relieved to say they at least are safe.
