Havin' a fangirl geek moment....

Post by lizdexia on Mon Mar 07, 2011 2:53 am

So....I haven't been in the lifestyle long, don't know any other face painters except through this forum, and haven't been to any big face painter events.
Imagine my surprise, when I visit the Arnold Classic in Columbus (about an hour from my home) today to support my husband in his MMA bouts, judo matches, and grappling matches--to find Marcela Murad in the expo center!!!! I introduced myself, had a total fangirl geek moment and only just saved myself from being a total fool...because, I mean, come on! It's mama clown, forpete'ssakes and wow! Apparently they had some body painting gigs (advertising maybe?) lined up each day and she was just hanging out painting some faces for free during the last day of the expo.
Never in a million would I have expected to see her there!
So much fun, such a nice lady.
Wondering if I can volunteer to help next year if she comes back. Heck, I'd be "coffee girl" if I could just hang out and watch!
Eeek!

LOL, I SO understand!! But girl, listen to what this moron did! I could probably get queen fangirl geek!! Little bout me, I'm an at home mom of three fun loving boys ages 8, 3 & 2. One lovely day when the sun was shining and the birds where singing, I was dusting the furniture with my apron on and the boys where are all playing quietly in their room and the whole world was at perfect peace! I get a call and who could it be? Was it that nice lady again letting me know I didn't pay my bill? Oh no,no...it was Pashur! SHUT UP!!!! Kids screaming in the background and I'm freaking out on him! I even said, "no way this is Pashur, is this a prank?" Cuz I mean seriously, how did he even get my number? This poor man is just trying to network and I'm being all newbie fangirl retard-major! I made the biggest (insert bad word here) of myself that I think I've ever made! You can't just spring stuff like that on me, stupid is all ya get, lol! I went to a convention, had Mark Reid paint a little on my face, sat next to Z and all was well with my soul, or so it appeared, but I was prepared. But for someone like that to call *me, just out the blue. Yup, I'm queen! queen

OMG I'd probably hang up out of shock... so cool! I'm clueless about self-promotion so networking with me would have had exactly the same effect on moi--total disbelief and a desire to make sure my friends weren't messing with me.
LOL--thanks for commiserating Wink

LOL! YUP, I had Nick... or was it Brian Wolfe(I was so geekafied that I couldn't remember which one) call me on the phone after FABAIC. We had a great face painting chat! I seemed so calm & cool... but if he only knew... I was jumping up & down, pointing at the phone and silently saying Wolfe! My hubby thought I was nuts Very Happy

@ Photomama-LOL, your on the court for sure!!, but if you woulda heard me, that crown's mine! ;o)

@Psalmbook-at least you kept your cool. I can just see it tho, so funny crazy!

@Liz-Yeah, he paints faces and has like a guinness record for the most faces painted in X time, not sure the time. JUST My Opinion, I don't think he paints very well. I consider MaNy of you(YOU included) on the forum better than him. It's just cool he has the Snaz business.
And the call prompting....see that was another thing, I had NEVER even met him! So seriously, I mean how does that happen?! So I have no idea what to say to get them to call! But I bet Pashur doesn't call me back, LOL!

Oh, oh! Forgot to mention, I'm going to LaFete and he's gonna be there! LOL! Think it'll be awkward? He might have hired security guards or something. Maybe I can act like I have no idea what he's talkin bout, it wasn't me! LOL!

Yes, they do call. They really are just normal people. Very few have BIG heads over their fame. For me, I gave the Wolfe's my business card(it was such an ugly card too...) to ask about classes for a jam. They pocket all the cards & then call during the week.

I think Gary actually OWNS Snazaroo. He's also the owner of Party Faces, his face painting company. He has like 20 painters that work for him. I personally don't care for his painting either...he does things ALL the same every time, so they have the same look. He's good at teaching, but I like a more detailed look to my paintings. He just wants to get through them...the more he does, the more he money he gets. But he's a great guy. Very sweet. Here's a picture of us after he painted my face for a demo...it's the "like Mike Tyson" look...

I have to chime in on this one. While I have not met any of the "famed few" in face paint (LaFete is coming next week though, Woooo Hoooo) the ones I have emails, etc with have been really great. Fame can mess people up if they loose contact with the ground but not these guys. I guess our community is still small enough.
HOWEVER....I was doing a clown gig at a major university two years back and who was standing in the end zone during warm ups looking like he owned the stadium...control yourselves ladies...Matthew McConaughey. His family is originally from a town near me and he is still a fan of the university. What was funny is that he has a reputation for being stuck up and something of a prima dona. The classic "strut my stuff" pose he was striking in the end zone was very much him. Everyone was giving him distance even though no body guards were in sight.
Since I was in makeup, and clowns do some silly things....I strolled up and took on the same pose imitating him. After a couple of tense moments, where he seemed to be trying to control his frustration at someone being bold enough to just come stand with him, he glanced over to see who it was. Not what he expected.
He busted out laughing and gladly took a pic with me. Oh how the mighty are brought low by laughter LOL.

That's awesome! I live very close to Longview, where McConaughey went to high school. I love some of his movies! That's hilarious about his reaction to your teasing.

My hometown of has been the location for several big-time movies, and my parents' little store on main street has been rented out for filming a few times. I've not had the pleasure of meeting any of the stars but my family has. It's so interesting to hear how differently they all behave. Some are very reclusive and others are very friendly. Sandra Bullock was one who they said was extremely friendly. She was even seen jogging in the neighborhood by herself early one morning, and was always available to talk to the on-lookers during shoots. Others they said were not nearly as relaxed. Only coming out of their trailers in time for their shot, then going back in... having their body guards all over the place, using doubles anytime the cameras needed to check body positions, etc. I guess everyone handles fame differently. Either way I am glad not to be famous.

@Liz-sorry I left you hanging! You got the Gary question answered. Now -LaFete-it's just a small convention in New Orleans, LA, March 17-20. I hear it's way more layed back than the big ones, but they still have some of the "big wigs." Great convention for a beginer! Last year was my first year and I was so green that the only paint I had was a small snaz kit from Michaels, I was so emarased. But everyone was nice and I had a good time. Check out their site and see what you think www.lafete.us

@Angie-we won't even entertain the idea of Pasher running thru this thread! LOL!

@xyppee1- COOL, Matthew McConaughey-HEEEYYY! That sounded like fun!

There was actually another close encounter with the third kind that I had. Maaaany years ago, when I lived in New Orleans, I worked the Super Bowl and got put on the VIP level! Very cool, I got to see soap opra stars, singers, actors, and some other football players too. The most memorable moment for me was when I got "hit on" by a player from the Giants. He said I was pretty and wanted me to meet up with him and his friends and hang out after the game, etc. I had a boyfriend at the time and said no. After we was done talking the people I was working with was going crazy and asked me if I knew who he was. When they told me I just about DIED! I was looking for that guy the rest of the night. "Um ya know changed my mind. Where ya wana meet?" LOL!! queen

Um, yeah--Pashur reading these wouldn't be *too* embarrassing, hey? Embarassed
Thanks for all the info, and I LOVE everyone sharing stories!!

OMG I looked at LA Fete and it looks amazing!!!! N'awlins is my favorite city. (sorry Cincy! I still love ya) I cannot imagine how much fun it would be to eat cajun food and paint and hang out--the tone seems much more my speed than FABAIC and that is *so* much a relief. Too late for this year, but I'm totally saving my pennies for next--awesome!

p.s. if you haven't seen it, check for Matt Damon doing his Matthew McConaughey impression. It's sooooo funny.
