Yay! A Pregnancy and Baby Fair!

Post by Jody Rife on Thu Mar 10, 2011 7:35 pm

I was just fussing the other day that I wish I had more bellies to paint. I love doing that but mamas willing to get painted are short in our area. It is a new thing around here so I have been trying to get the word out. I had a lady contact me and tell me about a Pregnancy and Baby Fair held each year in a town close by (bout an hr drive). How cool is that? A pregnancy and baby fair! I am so excited to go, surely I will be able to share my ideas and get some bellies to paint there! Here's hoping. Smile

I would recommend you get a hold of the person coordinating the evert & set up a booth or table so you can paint there Smile There really is nothing like painting in front of a crowd to get people stoked about it Wink

Thank you! ask her to if she knows of pregnant women who may want to be a model for you. Take lots of pics from all differnt angles after u paint in front of a neutral background (a wall or something) so you can send the mom to be the pics! I find that its not just the painting but the fact that the mom gets the pictures to keep afterwards that gets them to make the final decision to get it done Smile

We've got a fair coming up here, but they wouldn't negotiate & wanted $2000 for a booth fee affraid
I wanted them to have one of their vendors hire me to come in.

Wow! That must be one huge fair if they have a hefty fee like that. This fair is very small but will be a door to get me in this town, hopefully.

Psalmbook .. yes even if you can find a vendor (at the expensive fair) to have you at their table & not charge them a fee for your service, it would still work really well for you... that way, its a win win for you & the vendor ... they get a belly painter & you get your name out there Smile At a fair with table fees like that Im sure its a big one... take LOTS of cards!! Re: Yay! A Pregnancy and Baby Fair!

OK,
I have a question that I thought I would just tag onto this stream. While at an event, for a quick easy, on-the-spot, tummy design, I wonder how much to charge? I know that I will be making appointment to do private sessions but what about if a bunch of mommies want something done that day? I charge $5-$10 for faces. So would $15-$20 be unreasonable, not enough? The designs would have to be pretty simple to do at the shindig so I wouldn't want to charge the same as if they were at my home and I was taking great time to create the proper design. Any suggestions? thank you. Smile

I've been thinking about this, too, as I hope to have similar opportunities for this kind of exposure coming up.

I think, if I can come up with some REALLY simple, quick designs, charging $15 or so is reasonable. (Where I live, people are used to seeing $15 just for a face, so I'm pretty sure nobody would balk at the same price for a belly.) In that kind of environment I would not want to do a paint that takes me longer than ten minutes. With practice I'm pretty sure I could crank out your basic rainbow, sunset, or butterfly/flower belly in that amount of time - personally I find bellies easier than faces because they are a completely blank canvas and I'm not having to navigate around features. And obviously the goal would be to drum up more at-home, personalized sessions, so whetting people's appetites at that point is as important as making a few bucks off the event.

That's kinda what I was thinking ,Sunrise. Thanks. Smile I'm not looking to make a lot of money off of this event but I do think it will be good advertisement.
