Costume Advice

Post by Geekophile on Mon Mar 14, 2011 11:27 am

There have been some great discussions and examples of costumes on here. And it made me start offering costumes as a final "hook" in phone conversations. I have loads of dress-up clothes so I thought it would be a breeze to come up with a few. But then I got to thinking about my princess. Sure the fluffy pink tiered number that I had planned to use for "princess" would pass to a five year old, but wouldn't everyone else just see me a a lunatic in a prom dress? So, since my gig this weekend canceled Sad , I set to work on a princess dress that looks more, well, storybook. I'm on the finishing touches now. So what do you think? Should I keep the rosettes? (They're just pinned on right now) Or do you think it's overkill? HOw about the two on the waistband? I'm afraid it's starting to look fussy.

In case you are wondering, Yes (thanks to my mother in law) my dress form sits crooked. So it's not the neckline that's off!

Shocked Did you make that yourself? You are not just a good painter. Great dress!
I should keep the rosettes. I think the more decoration the better for a costume like this.

I like the little rosettes but I'm not so sure about the middle ones. How about a red sash instead?

I think you could do either one. It just depends on how fussy you wanna be, lol. My fussy level tends to stay low, so I like it a little better without the rosettes. ;o) But I would keep the roses on the waistband. I like how they tie the red into the pink.

GREAT JOB!! flower

Sophie, that is a very cute dress! I like the big rosettes in the middle, I would keep them. I am not sure about the little one though. Also maybe you can have some red ribbon hanging down from the rosettes on the waistband to tie it all up.
BTW who are you, Wonderwoman? Smile

Cute! I like the little rosettes, but the big ones in the middle just don't quite seem to fit with me... makes the front seem a bit too busy. Perhaps put them in the back like a bow?

Wow. That is like every different opinion possible! I originally made the large rosettes to be an accent where I gathered the pink overlay- that didn't hang nicely so I scrapped the idea. You can't see it well, but the front of the dress opens to reveal a beautiful tulle and satin crinoline. here are some pics of the options.

Oh! and Maggie, I am most emphatically NOT Wonderwoman- She has all her laundry folded and nails done every other Tuesday!

I like the big rosettes, they make the top tie with the bottom.

Cute princess dress! I wish I could sew...
I like the rosettes on the V, but I'm not sure about the big ones at the waist. I like the idea of a red sash around the waist.

Ok Maggie, this is just for you. Because you believed I could do it I folded all of the laundry, put it away, and painted my toenails too! Then I went to the closet and pulled out this old thing, went for a ride in my invisible jet and took care of a few bad guys.

LOL too cool! I like the second option for the dress myself. I find my eyes just DRAWN to those big rosettes in the middle... I would personally be a bit uncomfortable with people staring at my waist.

I like the second option with the smaller rosettes. If it were me I would totally still wear the larger rosettes in my hair!

Um, did you see the Wonder Woman costume? No body issues here! (lol, that could be a bad thing!)

I like the idea of using the big ones in my hair-- Thanks, Daizy. I think that's what I'll do. I am somewhat "hairstyle challenged" though, but maybe on a headband...
