Party favors/make over for boys
I need some suggestions......I have been working on some hair band/crazy hair pieces to offer as party favors for little girls birthday parties. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I could do for boys? I know some of you have packages that you offer as "make Overs" and I was wondering what you do for the boys. Boys are tough!! Thanks for any help!!
Re: Party favors/make over for boys
The mohawk, would that be done with a gel and colored hair spray?
Re: Party favors/make over for boys
Hmm... I generally stay way, WAY away from colored hair spray. The reason? My little cousin (6 years old at the time) went to Six Flags and had his hair colored there and the next day his hair started falling out in CLUMPS. My Aunt was shocked! She ended up suing Six Flags. I LOVE my hair and would just die if something like that ever happened to me and I'd feel absolutely TERRIBLE if I caused that to happen to someone else. Neither I nor my aunt can remember the brand they used, so to play it safe, I stay clear of all colored hair sprays.
Perhaps offer different colored bandana or hats for the boys?

Oriental trading has some cheap, multicolored baseball caps. Maybe if you get those and paint the boys' names on them with fabric paint? I know that my little cousins would love something like that.
Re: Party favors/make over for boys
Gold coins... the chocolate ones, like pirate loot.
Temporary tattoos... boys like to look tough.
I used to give them the sticky slappy thingys... some look like hands, they fly out and slap down and grab paper and bring it back... there are ones you can throw at the wall and they kind of creep down... they love these.... but became hard to find so I gave up on them.
I have little flashy lights..... they are called party dots, I had my bis name printed on them with a smiley face, they will stick to anything and will flash for 7 days, they can pick what colour they like ( and it advertises my business too.
Just some ideas. I have been considering buying some cheap tricks from Mad hatter to offer boys. I'm still working on it.

Love the ideas......will check with oriental trading for hats and Tash where would I ge the party dots? They sound like a great idea.
Re: Party favors/make over for boys
They are a good idea, just not the cheapest option... if you think about the fact they are advertising your business as well... then the price is justified. You can buy them without your business stuff on them for cheaper.
They are www.partydots.com.au
It's an aussie site but they are an international company.

those don't look like hair sprays though... they just look like a colored gel or something.

It is a gel. You comb it in, then style. My friends and I have experimented with it before. The colors are really bright.
Re: Party favors/make over for boys
Hi guys! I'm new to the forum and this is my first post so please forgive me ahead of time. I'm a hair dresser in Texas and I work in a kids salon that offers birthday parties for boys and girls. Punky, I'm so sorry that your family had a bad reaction with the colored hairsprays, as a stylist I have NEVER heard of a reaction like that happening with a product like that, maybe your cousin had an allergic reaction or something...hair normally doesn't just fall out like that after product application and if its made for hair its got to be tested for safety first. Either way, that sucks.
As for boys, we have offered those silly bands shaped rubber bands as favors as well as pirate coins etc. We also have themed favors to go with parties so sheriff badges for cowboy parties, eye patches for pirates, tiaras for princesses but you could also get cheap vampire or bubba teeth and hand those out too. Hope that helps
I would say for boys hair use a pretty firm pomade to make spikes and stuff rather than using a hairspray, it typically will hold better and last longer without melting. Ahhh...gotta love the hot Texas summers. Look at Walmart for a product line called Got 2b, its made by Swartzkoph (sp?) a great professional line but its at a much cheaper price. You can't miss the yellow bottles.
There are some downsides to using products that you don't spray, they make your hands super sticky and sometimes that won't just wipe off with wipeys. You can use a mascara wand to apply to color to the hair, use it horizontally for a wide stripe and vertically for a skinny stripe or dots. Do be careful with applying any color to light hair as there is always a chance of it staining, but you can also let the parents know that it can be removed with soap and water typically, if it is really stained they can use a clairifying shampoo (or Dawn dish detergent) to remove it.
