Forum vs. Facebook?

Post by Beans on Wed Mar 30, 2011 8:24 am

I would just like to say that I now spend more time on this forum than I do on Facebook! Thankyou all for keeping me adjusted, well read and actually very entertained!

Hi!

I never got 'hooked' to facebook, though I dearly love to read what others have to say... grin

But, the Forum?
Yeah, I'm HOOKED!

Well... I don't do FB at all so the forums are my link to everyone!

People keep telling me I should. One friend used the reason "you can find people you lost contact with!"... ah, er... yeah, that was by choice! Why would I want them to find me now???

It would ruin all the work the WPP did in the relocation! Cool Wink

Cute Shannon. Believe me, if you don't want certain people to find you...they will on FB. LOL I have had people try to friend me and I'm like, WHAT? Are you serious? And some people are just a touch crazy and I don't need them readin my stuff! Wink

Shannon - I, like you have good reasons for losing contact with most people.... but there are the few that slipped through the cracks of life that I would like to track down again.... so I"m on Face Book but I"m listed under my name, my hubby's name and my daughters name.... so on FB we are
"Tash Tony N Jazz". This means that people that know me can't find me.... awe poor babies.... but I can find and friend the people I want to stay in contact with.
I should also say that I have a lot of 'friends' from school that I don't talk to... I just look at their status updates and pictures to find out where their life has taken them. It's the BEST social network for antisocial people like me. I can stay in contact without ever having to speak with them!
It's also perfect for my friends and relo's in Portugal and around the world... we can have a conversation without someone having to call at freaky hours of the night.... wish someone happy birthday without the whole "what have you been doing with your life" conversation.

Just thought I would thrown In why I like it... it took me awhile to get onto it too as I thought it would make me feel hassled like my mobile phone does. But it's great.
It also allows my family to see my work and pics of my kid and things without me needing to do a mass mail out to family members.... and if my phone dies, people send me msgs through there to tell me they can't get hold of me..... very handy.

Tash, Love what you said about FB being the best social network for antisocial people! Feel the same way. Can pop onto FB and just look around at everything then disappear again without having to actually make contact. Forum on the other hand is where I come to unwind and refresh my mind with waves of amazement at some awesome talent, flames of inspiration sparked by new ideas, and the warmth and understanding of kindred spirits I may alas never get to meet .

Both have pros and cons. I have found facebook to be a fantastic marketing tool. My business page is a 'live' newsletter for my biz as well as a tool for connecting with other businesses. I have had many enquiries through FB and it's nice to know that so many local businesses are following and even supporting me (some have helped to promote me on many occasions).
The forum is all about learning from peers (and masters), facebook is word of mouth. Ignore either one at your peril, IMO.
