Decorating?

Post by Kristal on Thu Mar 31, 2011 2:48 am

Are there any balloon decorators here? I'm looking into doing some arches for an event, and am curious about who uses framework and regular air-filled balloons, and who uses fishing line weighted down, and helium filled balloons, and if there are other options I haven't thought about?!

I have a kit with two solid bases and a flexible (extremely long) tent pole between the two. There are plastic clips that hold the balloons and slide over the pole. I think it was $135? It took about an hour for two of us to put it all together with the electric pump that was included.

Ooh, and was that a 4-cluster spiralling kind of arch? That's not long at all! I didn't know they had clips for this stuff (clearly haven't done any decor before Razz)

Would you mind linking me up to where you got the kit from?

I'm just starting to get into decorating myself. I can do the pillars with weights and fishing line and the large scuptures using the 350s and larger balloons with 11" rounds for the bases.... but arches are a whole different story... they kinda intimidate me right now to be honest.

...sigh...

So we found out that we aren't allowed to have helium in the building (something about there being no restrictions out on the terrace; I'm thinking because it's so close to the water - that's why when I was looking into the Van Children's Fest they said they weren't doing balloons.). She wanted a single string of balloons, and you can't do that with no helium.

The room's also a rectangle - 20.5' X 38' and a 10' ceiling height - so cluster arches that cross in the middle won't really work either.

Regardless, I found out someone from Ontario I believe is coming out this way - doing an arch/large pieces class using frames and rounds! I think I'm going to take it anyway...why not, right?

Punky - why do you need fishing line for columns/pillars?

These are cool. We use the rods that you get from the set up laundry kits and drill them into wooden squares for the columns. For arches we do pvc or you can purchase these long plastic sets from party city to tie balloons into. You can't get but on color on them though, very simple. We hardly do balloon arches much. Lots of columns here.

If you are planning to redecorate your current home or you will be decorating a new home, you will want to find some good resources for house decorating ideas. The Internet is full of websites that offer you ideas and tips. There are magazines about home décor that you can purchase that will give you ideas and tips on how to get started and how to stay within a budget.

The first thing to do is get a notebook that you can write down all of your ideas in about each room you will be decorating. Make note of any items that you already own that will be included in your room's designs.

Start by choosing a style that you want whether it is modern, traditional, eclectic, or contemporary. Is there a theme you are looking to make like a Spanish villa, a bedroom tropical escape, or a themed child's room? Keep this in mind as well.
