Newbie’s starter kit and a tip for a brush cleaner…

Post by pasghetti on Sat Apr 02, 2011 5:17 am

Hi all! This is the kit I cobbled together for my daughter’s spring carnival. Craft store Snaz palette paints in a watercolor palette (which will be gifted to my dd as soon as my order from Metina comes in **drools in anticipation**, brush holder from my daughter’s RoseArt marker set, cosmetic glitter in a sand art bottle, and perler bead bases (pics are a few posts down) which I use to clean my brushes… You heard right, perler beads, the stuff of crafty nightmares for moms everywhere (you try picking up thousands of little beads after your kid accidentally knocks them off a table). So, if you’ve got ‘em in the house I suggest you appropriate one of the bases for use in your kit, they’ll never miss it Wink They don’t float so you can even use them in those aqua totes.

I was tidying up my dd’s desk and was getting all upset because she hadn’t put her markers away when I noticed that it would make the perfect brush holder. I, of course, told her that since she continually left her markers all over her desk that I would be confiscating their holder and she would have to put her markers in her craft drawer…SCORE Shocked Very Happy The holder isn’t closed at the bottom but have these bars dissecting the openings so water drains and your brushes don’t fall out if you lift it up. I’m in luuurrve I love you

Love the new brush holder. I might have to go on a bit of a hunt for one of those looks like it would work brilliantly!!

The brush holder is awesome! what and where in the world is the perle bead on your kit, I feel so dumb asking but I don't get it LOL
I did the same thing with my snazaroo paints, I actually bought another case to fill up with left over paint Smile
here is a picture, I thought about giving this to my daughter but I would keep it just in case for those kids with severe allergies.

Very Tidy! You are clever! I love the brush holder... One of my children will be getting a new set of markers, ( minus the holder, of course!) Smile What are the yellow square and clear rounds objects on the right in the photo? What are they for?

Thanks gals Smile

@maggie & markimpesky - just read over my post and sure enough I wasn't clear about the perler bead thingie, just goes to show you that you shouldn't post things before your morning cup of tea Embarassed. I'll clean that up in a bit. These are the perler bead bases and I use them to clean brushes with a bit of ivory soap or I drop them into my washwater if I'm not using my artist's wash basin. They're just like the ones found here:

I bought a lime green soft side picnic basket (still had the tags on it so it was new) to hold my kit at the local thrift store. It holds everything together perfectly. I really like that brush cleaner you showed and the brush holder is an awesome idea. Very Happy Thanks for sharing.

Found it! Wow!!! for $15 yes, I love it for a brush holder!! (ignoring the contents that are meant to go in them)

http://www.megabrands.com/Shop/Rose_Art/Rose_Art/100ct_Color_Pencils_1055/

it holds a hundred! hadn't realized it was quite that many (8 rows of 11 and two of 6)

When I was searching I found all kinds of acrylic pen holders - price was great ($1), but then in the fine print it was a minimum order of 5000..... umm... no thanks.

Thank y'all Smile

@Changing & Noella - I got the marker set from Target. It's RoseArt Supertip markers, the thin, pen-like markers. I wouldn't get the pencil set because from what I remember the holder for the colored pencils was smaller. I'm going shopping today so I'll stop by Target and see if they still sell them and if they do I'll take a pic Very Happy

Gotcha pasghetti - I couldn't find a holder in any of the other sets on the pages I found - hopefully it is still at Target!

I believe this is the first time I've felt a pang of regret that a company has made more of an effort to be green... They now make the 100ct marker holders out of... duhn, duhn, duuuuhhhnnn... cardboard Mad Sad

Ah well, c'est la vie.

@maggie - I love and hate that you posted your black palette. Now I know that there's a palette that will match the brush holder. This is good and bad because now whenever I see my red one I scream silently within me, "AAAARRRRGGHH!! I could've got one that matched!!! Curses!!" Evil or Very Mad Laughing "I will find you black palette, I will!!" lol
So, where did you get that little beauty, asks my usually very carefully hidden OCD side Wink
